Just installed an 02 CRF cam and a 11.5:1 Wiseco piston. Now on startup the bike smokes alot. It also seems to some on deceleration. I have alittle over 2 hours on it since rebuild. I was considering replacing the rings as a precautionary measure. Any other idea's??

You would have a little bit of smoke until the rings seat but shouldn't smoke afterwards. Are you sure you installed the rings correctly?

Smoking when the motor is braking means you get getting oil blow by from the pressure. Can only come from 2 places. Leaking past valve seals or past the piston rings. If you didn't touch the valves then I would say its your rings. Are they new?

The rings are not new. I bought the piston off a shop that used it for some dyno runs. It was installed for roughly an hour. Then I installed it in my bike.

thats it. You ALWAYS replace the rings. Gotta tear her down. Get new rings, have the cylinder ball honed for the cross hatch. And then build her back up.
