The head pipe will glow, but also, they come lean from the factory.
Put a bigger main jet in it.

Your engine is running lean. I recommend changing your jets.

The glow is normal. The fan does not run that often. Me and all my buddies have discussed this before. Mine never runs but then again I do not have a fan:D but I did change the main jet in my buddies 06 and it was a 155. It seemed to low because mine from the factory was a 158. If your bike is not back firing on decel do not worry.

like stated, the glow is normal, as is the fan not coming on... my buddy has an 06 450, and we ride freaking hard at the dunes, on long aggesive trails, and we shoot the hill repeatedly, and i think his has only come on like once or twice in the 5 months he has had it...

Glow is not normal. That's a sure indication Below is the result of a lean running engine.

This piston crown has an ash color, which shows that the engine has run hot. The ash color is actually piston material that has started to flash (melt) and turned to tiny flakes. If this engine was run any longer, it probably would,ve developed a hot spot and hole near the exhaust side and failed. The main causes of this problem are too lean carb jetting, too hot spark plug range, etc.

my pipe glows and i can promise you that it is not the jetting.... im not trying to be mean but i know how it is susposed to be jetted. I change my top end every year and the pistons are in great shape, if they were running too hot they would show wear like on that picture of yours.

My brother & best friend have 04 yfz 450's & thier pipes have glowed from day one it's normal for them. The exhaust is stainless steel(thinner then steel). My buddy has over 300 hr. & it's still running strong(just took it in for jetting & full piping). My 05 Raptor 660 didn't do it(steel exhaust),but my new 700 does it(stainless exhaust).I wouldn't mess with the jets untill your ready to go all the way & do it all(filter, jets&full pipe).
