OK iv been looking into motor up grades for my EX and would it be worth it to got a 416EX with a 11:1 piston and a stage 1 cam or just stay with a stock bore and a 11:1 piston and cam, would a 416 require a bigger carb???? thnkas

416= 3rd gear wheelies...:devil:

u can run it on stock carb no prob. only thing that u may want if u dont have is a exaust pipe. with out a pipe u will be holding back lots of power. and a filter to.

so what do you have for mods now.

I would definetly go with a 416 over a stock bore any day.

my friend has a 400 that has a 11:1 piston, stage 1 cam and ct pipe. I drag race him on my 416 and blow the doors off him.
but tough comparison, I have a carb, porting, the works....

Mud is not a problem with the lid off as long as you have an outterwears. But you will have to rejet if you take the lid off.

He said was going to be 300 for parts and 300 for labor. Is this a could deal also what power diff were there be. thanx

600 for a 416 and a cam and porting and polishin is a fairly good deal

10.8:1 has less compresion. diffrence = little to none to a rider. I think it is just diffrent brand pistons.

Does a 416 11:1 need HD head studs?

03-06-2006, 07:36 AM

OK everyone that already has the 416 kit what did you use for jets did you play a guessing game or did you get a dyna jet or did the kit tell you what to jet it at.

I went with the FCR carb when I had my 416 done.
I also went with stage 1 cam. I rode about 4 tanks of gas through before I changed to stage 2. MUCH better imo. The stage 1 behaves like it hits a rev limiter sometimes. The stage 2 keeps pulling on. They both have the same low end snap, one was not better than the other. Stage 2 definitely has a mid range hit that will bring a smile to your face.
get full pipe, not just slip on too.

search these forums for stage 1 / 2 comparisons for more help. I've actually had both and like stage 2 hands down.

All this stuff just confuses the hell outta me.
I have another post about how I have a cracked sleeve on a 440Kit.

I wanted to go back to stock so I wouldn't complicate matters.

Since I have to replace the cylinder (2 shops told me they didn't recommend having the sleeve removed and then a new sleeve put in)

They said you really only want to do this once with the cylinder

I don't mean to steal this thread but it got my interest when I saw the 416 ??

tks

johnsls, I would give Colby a call at C&D Racing, he is the one that did all of the motor work.

But i will be able to run my stock carb with a 416 right?? im sure becuase my last 400ex i had jetted and i had bigger jets that came with my dyna jet kit i didnt use. so you saying 416 kit with a stage 2 is the hot set up? i need more power, im trying to pull harder, i do mostly xc riding and my friend has a predator and is talkin made sh*t so i want a sleeper this year :D

bro i had a 416 and it was pullin on YFZ'S yes i said it YFZ's with the cam mod but then again my 416 had ALOT of head work and i dont know about any other work i bought it as a 3rd owner and the 1'st owner had the work done but it was in fact 416 i had a custom ground cam then later switched to stage 1 then stage 2 and stage one was better for your torque gains and the stage 2 IMO just sucked for everything i had a duncan Fat boy 4 exhaust cut to a shorty and a K&N without an airbox and man this bike was sick wish i never sold it

kid on this site bought it from me rippin2 i believe is his name
, but then again hell probably just badmouth me again for rediculas reasons

i dont have a pipe or a bore kit and i can still do 4th gear wheelies

SicRipp83
03-07-2006, 11:54 AM
dude everyone on this forum knows that the 400ex is the machine when it comes to doing wheelies, 5th gear you need some room plus their isnt much torque so its hard to pull it up on flat ground, but iv done it but i can ride them as far as i can in 3rd to 4th

I agree.
The title of this post is '416, is it worth it'.
The simple answer is YES.

By searching the forums you can get all the info you need for jetting, or FCR carb, cam selection, whatever.

you can bore out the stock sleave, the stock rod should be fine, you can run 11:1 on any bore. My piston is a JE 12.5:1/416

$600 dollars sounds like a pretty good price. But I would only take my bike to a shop that know 400ex's really well, modding 400ex's and keeping them reliable can be tough.
