ok im new to the 250r, let alone 2 strokes, when im in lower gears say 1-3rd it boggs down but 4-6th its fine whats the deal
like i said im new, i moved over from the dark side

You might not be reving it high enough....you need to keep 2strokes "up on the pipe" meaning rev them a little higher.

I think most quads have a rev limiter- not positive though. Give er' hell and just remember to hang on!

You will feel a big pull and then it will start loosing power, you want to shift right before you start loosing power. If you do it quick enough it should pull pretty hard depending on what kind of power your quad has.

Is it a stock 250r? either way it should be fairly decent.

No, it won't burn. Usually.

The only time it will burn is if the jetting isn't correct, or if you don't let it warm up properly, or if you're revving it really high in 1st gear for a long time (several minutes, because you're not getting enough airflow through the radiator).


Also, don't worry about over-revving. It has a rev limiter built in to the CDI box, it will cut the spark before it revs high enough to damage itself. It doesn't kill the engine dead, it just won't rev any higher.


So go ahead and open her up!!!!

Thats good to know. My 250r is the first 2 stroke I have owned, and the little time that I have been riding it, I have been a little paranoid about going too hard on her.

Yah, 2 strokes like rpm's. That's a big reason why I got one. Everyone always told me I was going to grenade my 4 stroke because I revved it so high, so I figured I would be right at home on a 250r.

well reving it is fine but do everyone a favor and do a plug chop before you go to hard on her. your plug should be coffee brown on the tip of the porclin.
