View Full Version : IS THIS yfz450 CONVERSION POSSIBLE??

I have a yz426 hybrid, it is a 250r geometry laegers frame. I am wondering if maybe i could put a yfz450 quad motor in this frame? I am not a big fan of kick start so i figured maybe this would be an option. If it is possible, how hard or easy would it be? Any info would help so please let me know. thanks

anythings possible its just gonna take alot of welding,cutting and fabricating

I bet it could be done with minimal cutting and welding, it's just a matter of making the motor mounts and making sure the sprocket lines up with the rear sprocket. The YZF and YFZ engines are pretty similar so I'm sure it won't be hard as say putting a 250R or 450R engine in.

yea, I agree with toadz, it probably wouldn't be that hard, because I think they are basically the same motor(I could be wrong on that) and with the right engine brackets fabricated it probably wouldn't take too much work. You'd also have to built a place to put the battery and stuff if you're talking about an electric start motor

With a yz450 decomp exhaust cam,the correct jetting,a shorty
kicker.
The yz426 should be easy to start.

the yfz 450 motor cases are blgger at the bottom than the yz 426. I have a laegers yz 426 frame and just tried to put a friends yfz 450 motor in it and the 450 hits the lower frame rails.

Hey thanks guys for helping me out with this. Also the frame that i have is a pretty rare laegers chassis so i do not want to weld, cut, etc., if so then i probably will stick with what i have. It just sucks cuz i never had a kickstart quad. If anybody has any more suggestions, info, keep it coming. thanks

Do you have problems kick starting it or do you just not like the kickstart?

As for the engine hitting the lower frame rails, wouldn't it be possible to just make different mounts that raise the engine up a bit, just enough to clear the frame? Or is there not enough clearance above? I've never taken a look at Laeger frame or really any aftermarket frame.
