I-pod shuffle owners...need help

i bought an I-pod shuffle used,but in great shape.the person i got it from didnt send the owners manual,or the cd that goes in my computer....do i need that cd to load songs in the i-pod?is there certain software i need to download songs from my computer to my i-pod? .....thanks........
