I've been on the inside of the works shocks so i can say without a doubt go with the respring and revalve on the stock 450R shock. The Works shock uses an aluminum block machined with a spring and a ball to regulate the oil flow. The Honda 450R shock has great valving just a little soft for must. If your a duner then it should be good for you.

i mostly ride trails and plan to start racing some xc races so i think the works will be fine for me.

my guess is you would come out better with a GT Thunder/TCS revalve of the stock shocks, especially price wise

If I were you I would get the stock 450r shocks and get them sprung and valved to your specs. I was told by Laz at GT Thunder that revalving a works shock can get expensive if they are not set up to your liking. With that in mind, and the extra cost to add ressies I would get the 450r shock which has ressies already and has better valving than works IMO.

i agree with most of that, but im not sure about the valving..

im using a set of Works right now w/out rezzies and its not to say at all that i dont like them, but id get the 450r's.. the Works steelers are a great ride for trail riders..(which is what they appear to be designed for)
theyre "plush" and forgiving..
but for a fully adjustable shock at about $200 less, id go for the 450r shock or perhaps some 05/06 z400 shocks..

to make my Works a "fully adjustable", reservoired shock would be alot more expensive..

if/when the time comes, im just going to replace them with a set of take-offs of one the flavors mentioned above.. (likely the z shocks since they already have a type of "progressive" spring..)
I really cant see the necessity of rebuilding the takeoffs unless youre gonna hit the track regularly. after all, from the factory theyre meant to accomodate a huge range of rider weight and styles of riding by the adjustments provided..

try them first, if you cant tweak them in to your liking, then look into rebuilding them to a dual or triple rate.

Just because they "fit" doesn't mean they will work properly. The best advice on this topic would be given to you by a shock expert such as C&D, Laz at GT Thunder or Santo. Give those guys a call and get their advice before you spend the money on shocks. Properly set up shocks will make a world of difference for you quad but make sure you are going to be putting the money into the right shock for what you will be doing.
