I've started building a website at 50megs.com and I was wondering how I can get a lot of people to look at when I'm done? How can I get search engines to pick it up easily? And keep in mind, it has to be free. Thanks.

Typically webhosts provide a service to register with web crawlers and search engines. So much so that you usually cannot register by yourself anymore.

However, that does not mean that you can't try. Go to the larger search engines and lookup the info for registering with them and if you can they will start crawling your site.

another way
Type in the exact name of your site many many many times
you may want to write a script to do it over and over.
They will at least come up with your site based on domain name searches.

Also, therre is a section in all webpages for describing what type of content you have. You put keywords and stuff like that in there
then when crawlers hit your site they have keywords to store for you.

Warning to do not become delusional and think this will work for you. Most of the free stuff will not work very well. It takes lots and lots of search hits to bring you up in the ratings on a search.
Thats why most companies pay for it initially.
