Ok, I've heard gearing down 1 on the front is the same as going up 3 in the back. Is this accurate? I want more low end grunt on my EX but not too much and I was thinking of going up in the rear instead of down in the front since the '05's alreadyy have a 14 tooth stock front. I ride trails & run 22's. So, 1 down= 3 up?

It is close but not exact. Just go to http://home.earthlink.net/~gellett/400ex.htm and you can find out any different combo.

Correct on what, that 1 down in front is the same as 3 up in the rear?

Thanks for the link but it's for an '04 and earlier EX with a 15 tooth stock front, the '05's have a 14 tooth stock, and I'm more interested in torque and low end pull than top speeds in each gear.

Anyone gone down to a 13 front on their '05/'06? I want more bottom end but not too much more so I was thinking of going one or two up in the back instead of 1 down in front. I ride trails & run 22's.

Just go off of your instinct. Its your quad and no one will like it exactly like you.

one thing to consider it do you have enuff clearance on your skid plate with a bigger sprocket in the rear? front is cheaper too;)
