Im getting a 2001 400ex and the guy said it was port and polished. what is this and what does it do?

Its a process where material is removed from the intake and exhaust ports then polished up. It improves the flow throught the head thus giving you more power, considering it was done right.

port and polis is making the Intake and exhaust ports larget to allow the fuel/air mixture to flow more freely in the cylinder. Polish is polishing the exhaust only (hopefully!) into a shiny finish to keep carbon buildup down and allow the exhaust gasses to flow out easier. do a search and you can find some pics of before and after.

but if u leave the exhaust ports smaller wouldnt the exhuast travelt out faster because the smaller hole means more velocity of the exhaust? j/w like wat if u ported intake and left exhaust alone would it work together or be chitty?

no cause a larger exhaust and pipe are more free flowing, there is less restrictions= more power

ask him if he did it him self or did he pay if he did it him self check it out first.

In reality, porting isn't just about "making it bigger". It's about making it flow better. And velocity is an important aspect, not just volume.

Porting actually requires quite a bit of research on a flow bench to determine the optimum setup.
