Does the reverse spring recall effect all 05 and 06 ex's? If so, can or should a dealer sell you the quad knowing there is an open saftey recall?

its realy no big deal, i rode my 05 for at least a month before the dealer got the parts in stock than it only took a hour to fix.

I called the dealer I just bought this from and I was told the recall was done to all the new 400's prior to selling. This was on Sunday and service was closed, I spoke with someone in sales. I was told that the tech puts a ping mark at the end of the v.i.n. indicating the recall has been performed. I looked at mine and I saw no ping mark by the v.i.n. I going there to check tomorrow.

I got a 05 400ex towards the end of december in 05 and they had just gotten back on the floor. Here is what can happen says the salesman: You could be cruisin along just fine and all of a sudden it will pop into reverse.

no,the problem was that the rider could "DOWNSHIFT" from 1st gear into reverse without operating the reverse assist lever just as said in the letter that honda sent out, here is the link for it

No, the recall doesn't effect all '05's and I can't imagine any '06's (But I'm not positive on that). I just bought my '05 and the change was done at the factory. Look at your engine VIN. If there is a star then it was done at the factory. If there is a dot then it was done at the dealer. If there's nothing then get it done! This problem was discovered on the '05 model and if my '05 was fixed at the factory I can't see any '06 making it out the door with the same problem.

Went to the dealer today. I was told the recall applies to all 05's and some 06's. They told me upon completion of the recall they put a punch mark by the engine number on the left side of the engine and not the V.I.N. at the front of the frame. Mine has the mark so it was done at the dealer. I was told that the new bikes leaving the factory already have the same collar installed to prevent the reverse spring from coming off.
