How exactally do I go about shipping out my 400ex motor.I know ups prolly wont take it cause of the weight limit, but who do you get to ship it and how do you package it up?
If ya's got any pics of one packed it would be greatly appreciated

You need ot make sure there are no fluids in the motor, then crate her up.

Go down to walmart and buy a 2 dollar plastic tote(soft plastic, the hard stuff cracks when it gets cold)put it in a cardboard box then put that in the tote, duct tape the hell out of it.works for me.it also give you some handles to lift it with.

Make sure you get a rubber made tote, the cheap hard ones crack. I drill holes around the outside edge and zip tie the lid shut with about 20 zip ties.

And i buy about 3 or 4 cheap pillows for packing material.

on average, what would you say it would cost to ship a motor? What shipping company have you used? Im curious, I might be shipping an engine soon.

I was thinking of building a crate, not now alot easier and cheaper to buy one of those rubbermaid totes!!:D Great idea

build a crate!!! to not ship it in a box! I had a engine builder ship my engine back to me in a box and they didnt package it well and UPS dropped it and busted my cases and bent my shift rod in my engine!!!!

alot of engine builders wont accept engines that come in a just a box.

Build a crate, make mounts inside the crate that you stick bolts through the engine and mount your engine to the crate, then stick in engine and crat in a box and pack it with so much foam and other stuff that nothing could hurt it!

When UPS delivers boxes they dont care what is inside it, the just care about getting it to its place as fast as possible so they just throw them around literally

here is a pic of my engine cases after my engine was shipped in a box

After seeing that, I think Ill make a crate, it wont weigh that much more. that had to suck getting your motor then seeing that.

I just shipped one a few weeks ago through ups and it was about 100 even. From ohio to maryland.

I bought on motor that wasnt packed and was damged, The 3 I have shipped cam out good. First one had a dented stator cover (luckily they are easy to find cheap), but that just tought me to put the most packing on the bottom beacuse the will drop it.

dont put it in a rubber maid container what ever you do, I've seen many motors get damaged from this..

ups wheight limit is 150 #.

I would put alot of packagin on the bottom because thats they only thing where they might drop it but they wont beable to throw it around.

and technically ups employes get in big trouble when they are caught throwing packages...

If you can find a DHL by you do that, UPS cost roughly 80 dollars to ship 400ex motor weighing 95 pounds from Ohio to North Carolina. I then sent A YFZ450 motor and hubs, brakes, lots more weighing the same for about 75 dollars.I got a crate that my 400ex motor from rafikie sent me that was made for 100 pounds at least and packed it with foam.

Insurance is a 1$ per hundred at a ups store and the 1st 100 is free.

If u have ur own ups account it is either .50- 1.00 $ per hundred.

I shipped mine in a cooler and I used Fed Ex. Shipping was under $100 for the motor only. I had to ship a lot of other stuff such as my exhaust system and fuel assembly and other various things and the total for everything was $101.89 i believe. So Im sure the motor was under $100 :blah: When my motor was sent back, my builder used DHL and it was fairly cheap and the shipping was pretty fast with them...I was impressed. Just make sure you duct tape that cooler up good and be aware that your cooler will probably be a bit trashed up after it all

We have had several motors come in rubbermaid totes buy 2 of them stack one inside the other for added bottom protection or place some paper or styrofoam inbetween the 2 totes on the bottom. Place the motor inside paying attention to how the motor is sitting (make sure it is not sitting on the shifter to) support the motor so it doesn't put pressure on the shift shaft and place lots of styrofoam and packing materials around the motor. Put the lid on a drill holes in it and ziptie it down.. I have had them range from $60-$95 with $1500-$2000 insurance UPS also charges a non machinable fee because the motor is not encased in cardboard :ermm: $5 fee.
