i was thinking about buying a set of used 450r shocks for my 400 but my dad said that there could be to many things wrong with them. what should i look for when buying used shocks? ive already decided that im getting 450 shocks cuz i dont have the money for better ones and i think they are perfect for what i want.

the ones i was thinking about getting are item #4615607546 on ebay!

thanks!:D

The shocks you refer to are probably off a 2005. The 2006 have an aluminum preload adjuster ring.

If you buy these, plan on having them re-valved in the future.

There are a couple of people doing this. Just do a search.

They are definitely an upgrade form stockers

450R shocks with be an improvement over the stock 400Ex shock just not ideal. If there is oil leaking from the shock or oil is evident on the shaft then it is bad. You may want to look around Ebay for a used set of aftermarket (Elka or TCS preferably) shocks for a 250R or Z400. These have the same geometry as your bike. The 450R shock is a little long.

I believe there was a guy sell a set of almost new TCS shock here. They were for a Z400 but would work great on yours. He wanted $600. i believe. Look in the for sale section.

Z400 shocks would be just as long as 450R shocks. They're both 16.5 inches.

yeah im gonna get them revalved by gt thunder once i get them. are you saying that the 06 450r shocks wont work as good as the 05's? i definetly dont have 600 to spend on used shocks so i think that the 450s are the best for me. i just want to know if the 06's are the same as the 05's (dimension wise) and if they will work a good cuz i found a good deal on some 06's.

the 2006 shocks are stiffer then the '05s. However if you have GT Thunder rebuild them it won't matter as he'll put new springs on. (which is great) But remember your going to spend around $350-450 depending what springs you chose for GT Thunder to rebuild these.

Soooo... 250 (seems the going price) for the shocks plus 350 for the rebuild. Your at 600 and you could buy a new set of Elkas for that. The Elkas at that price won't have the adjustability as the 450R shocks, but they would be sprung, valved and built for your 416EX.

Now having said all that, I have '06 450R shocks that I just sent to Laz for a $350 rebuild (along with my rear). The reason I did this is because I could not afford a fully adjustable set of elkas. This is a less expensive way to go and the costs can be spread out! It is totally your choice. Good luck

ooo i was under the impression that to get them revalved it was $75. i guess i must have misread something.

well, will the shock still be an improvemnet over stock if i dont revavle them?

They would be an improvement over the stock shocks. I'd try to stick with '04 or '05s as they are sprung slightly lighter. Also do a search, many people have posted adjustments for making them ride decent by adjusting preload, compression, and rebound.

yeah im gonna search around to see what i can get the best deal on. if they happen to be 06's i still think they would be twice as good as the stockers!!!
