another question..Is the banshee air cooled or liquid? If it is air cooled, do you think a polaris scrambler 400 woul be ok air cooled?

of course the banshee is liquid cooled... they have a problem stayin cool being water cooled, imagine if they were air cooled...

thats why they call it a banshee. not because of the sound it makes, but because of the sound you make the first time you pin it

I personally highly doubt those "dyno" readings. My z400 has around 32 stock and i KNOW my dad's Banshee has MORE HP stock!

I think the Banshee does about 78 mph bone stock...

Small pic, but there is a pic from LRD racing that says a banshee has around 40 stock.....

Aye, I beleive they are right around the 38hp mark bone stock. Doesnt take much to open them up though.

Speaking of making the banshee sound.. wait untill the throttle sticks on you the first time.. lol. It will only happen once.. then you will become a religious fanatic about keeping the cables lubed, and the carb clean.. lol.

Stock banshee does 73MPH. Piped a little over 80. (Depends on what you get) With the mods I have below on my 3 year old engine that has been beat on I go clocked at 93 MPH from a Street Bike.

no number is wrong, it depends on the day and the dyno... high 30s -40 is the norm

i see the kids reside here too... if u dont agree that different dynos on different days generate different numbers then maybe u better stop talking. most people deny this because they like to see the highest number for their machine

no dyno is the same, but banshees are always 37 or so to around 40 HP....

Remember that if you do a dyno with mx tires on it will be low because they'll slip alot the closest dyno is one done with racing slicks on it.

banshees are fast but they dont utilize the power as good as other quads. My 400ex has 27.2HP at the wheels and also weighs over 400lbs with the stuff I have on it and every time my friend and I race he is about 1 - 1 1/2 lengths ahead of me. Sometimes I have beaten him or we run even. Banshee top speed is around 78MPH and 400ex is around 72MPH. My atv has almost half te HP of his but yet we run close.

What length are you racing? And what does the banshee have done to it? Even stock, I have a hard time picturing a 400ex with just a K&N filter being that close to a Banshee, unless you are racing like 50ft, or you are on gravel. JMO

A stock Banshee can be anywhere from like 35-39 horsepower, maybe into the 40's stock. Every engine is different, has it's own casting flaws, things like that. Sure they intakes and exhaust might look roughly the same, but the transfers are sometimes messy stock. For top speed well again depends, every engine is different. Also depends if you have re-jetted it or not. If a guy at sea level buys a quad with stock 270 jetting, and then a guy at 4000ft buys one with 270 jetting, then chances are one of them will be faster than the other due to the jetting being closer to spot on. Generally people say top speed is anywhere from low 70's to mid 70's stock.

Well I have an 03 Shee and it has pro cicuit pipes, k&n filter, wiseco pistons, ported and polished cylinders, 380 vito jets, and it is still stock bore and the only other thing it has is a 15 tooth on the front and my friend has a 400ex with different sprockets and a k&n filter and I can out run his easy by 10 lengths and on the top speed I ran beside a truck on the highway and he was cutting off at 95mph and i still had a little throttle left so it doesn't take much to get them at least close to 100mph!

07-30-2007, 05:34 PM
my engine is completely stock, I dont have my K&N in yet or anything because i'm waiting untl I get my pipe. All I have is aftermarke goodies that weigh more such as my skid plates and nerfs. On the street a banshee will pull ahead more but still isnt a huge difference. IMO banshees are only good for going fast in a straight line and nothing else.

That is true a shee is just about the best quad for going in a strait line but if u set it up right and know how to ride you can hang with or even put the four strokes in there place on the mx track!!!

I proved that too with mine when I had it. I grew out of the arguing **** and bought a dirtbike. I had enough when I bought a 450R after selling my Banshee a a bunch told me that the stock 450 would destroy my old Banshee. I owned the Banshee and owned the 450R and they still talked to me the way they argue on here. Its stupid. Its like someone telling you what YOUR truck will and won't do and they don't even have one.

From my experiences banshee's will consistantly beat a 400ex in a drag, but the races are generally closer than you would think because the 400 gets all the power to the ground better than the shee. It's the same for some dirtbikes, at the local pits i've had guys and kx, yz, cr 125's, kdx 225's, and wr426's laugh at me when i ask them to drag on my piped 400, but i was able to consistantly beat all of them because my 400 always finds traction and dirtbikes and shee's dont. And ya, you can say well race on tar and see who wins, but quads and dirtbikes are ment to run in the dirt and sand so thats where the races count. i dont know about you guys but the only place my ex doesnt like to hook up at all is on grass, i cant get a good start on grass to save my life.

A stock Banshee can probably make around 35HP, with the stock pipes and snorkle if tuned right. Too many people that know nothing about 2 strokes, just ride it as is. Banshees can't just be left like the four strokes, you need to jet them often when outside conditions change.

Can you name any other 350cc or even 450cc quad that can make the kind of HP numbers that a Banshee can, probably not. They are severly corked up stock, not really even argueable.

You can't really compare them on an MX course, this design dates back before 90% of the posters on here were born, it's dated.

But take a Banshee and throw a rediculous amount of money at it and it can compete and sometimes even win at just about any type of racing(it still owns the drags.)
