today i got my raptor back from the shop. I had them put a stage 1 hotcam in it. as soon as i started it i heard a slight ticking from the motor. i asked the guy about it and he said it might be the rocker arms or the valves adjusting to the new cam. is this normal or is the guy full of it?

The decomp pin might be 180* out.

The Hot Cams I have used im my raptor both stage 1 & 2 are louder then stock.

Just make sure the decomp pin is not 180* out!!

how long would it run if it was 180 out?
My raptor had a stage 1 webcam, it ran good but the valves were extremely loud. After about 4hours of riding it droped the valve thaat the decomp plug is on

How long would it run with the decomp pin 180* out, your guess is as good as mine. Mine ran for a whole weekend of duning before I could tear it apart and check it out. What will happen is a loss of power due to the exhaust valve opening before it should which depending on your piston could cause them to make contact and break a vavle. It will also wear a grove in your rocker arm.

i put a stage one in my 660 and it was making a clicking noise i figured it was the valves because the valve clearances were so big so i talked to hotcam and they said the race cam would be louder than stock and if i put the clearances back to stock i would burn the cam up but it is pretty loud sounds like crap

You better check to make sure the decomp pin is retracting flush with the cam when the weights are pushed out ward!

Good, as long as you check it.

Hot Cams are loud.

Yep it will be fine as long as the decomp pin is working as it should. I am always amazed it how loud the Hot Cams are in the rocker type motors ie. raptor, 400ex.

My stage 1 was just as loud as my stage 2 is now.
