Does anybody make a drop-in camshaft for the 250X/300EX that is designed to use the stock valvesprings and rockers?

I got an old 250X that I'm getting ready to sell, and I'd like to boost the performance a little bit. It's already got a high-comp piston, but I'd also like to throw in a camshaft to wake it up a little bit.

Most of the camshafts I've seen for the 250x/300EX are hardwelded, so they require hardened rockers. They also require heavy-duty valvesprings.

Hardened rockers aren't the end of the world, but I'd rather not. However, HD valvesprings are a deal-breaker. I'm simply not going to take apart the head on this thing just to upgrade the camshaft.

I'm looking for a true drop-in. I want to remove the valvecover, slack the timing chain, pull the old cam out and slap the new cam in. That's it. I'm not willing to do anything more complicated than that.

I don't think anybody makes one. unless TC racing makes one that isn't hardwelded.

They are, just put a stage 1 webcam in there, I used to have a cam compareable to a stage 3 and 4 webcam on stock valvetrain and it was fine, it just floated out if your missed a shift and hit red-line real quick. I have no idea who made it but it was billet and was slightly bigger than a stage 3 web cam.

I think he wants to know a cam that doesn't recommend hardwelded rockers.

Billet cams, like Cody was recommending, dont need hardened rockers.

Good call Cody.

I don't know this for a fact, but I had the WB all around cam in a 87' 250x for 3 years with no problems out of valvesprings and rockers and then in a 99' 300ex had same kind of cam for 2 years with no issues. And it was sold to me from local dealer as a drop n cam. But I never did any research on it, I just took their word for it. But with no issues with 2 motors after 5 total years of running that cam I figure they have to be a drop in cam.

My Sparks cam was a drop-in cam.. but that was 5 years ago. I doub't your going to find one these days. I'm sure everyone uses a WEB or custom WEB cam these days. I don't think there's enough demand to pay for the equipment needed to make a non-hardweleded cam.

ive had 3 300ex's and never used harweld rockers, one was a WB cam, one was a TC gncc gring (tracci cecco's motor) and i forget what the third was, but GThunder built it, and said he prefered stock rockers. bever had a problem out of any of them, leads me to beleive the hole "hardweld rockers" is just a sham
