When you go from Neutral into first how much noise should there be and should the wheels move? When i go into first there is a small clunking noise and the tires just jump a little. Is that normal? If not how do i adjust this?

Also is it bad to go from neutral straight to second?

Thanks

It sounds like your not getting enough pull and the clutch is not fully disengaging. Try to adjust it from the thumb wheel by the lever first and if you cant get it to stop lurching with the clutch pulled in then you need to adjust it from the other end of the cable where it mounts under the exhaust.

Going from n to 2 isnt a problem unless you are moving etc.

Out. Does there seem to be a lot of play in your clutch lever?

I usually adjust mine by feel, but a safe estimate would be about 1/8" - 1/4" of play. My 2002 seemed like the clutch cable stretched way too much, too quick. I had to do what 400EX4ME suggested, and adjust the clutch on top of the crankcase cover first. Then "fine tune" it at the lever.

There are two nuts, back off (counterclockwise) the one on the rear of the bracket to give you enough room to adjust the other. Then turn the nut on the front side of the bracket clockwise until you are satisfied with the feel in the clutch. When adjusting the cable there, you should notice that the part of the clutch cable that goes through the bracket will be moving toward the front of the EX. Once you have the clutch adjusted how you want it, tighten up the nut on the rear side of the bracket. At this point, you should have one nut on each side of the bracket, tightened up against it.

Mine does that when the engine is cold. In fact, it wont shift into neutral until the engine is warm.
