gearing really depends on what you are gonna do with it. i run a 15 up front and a 39 out back most of the time. but if i know will be doing alot of field riding WOT, i run a 16 up front. alot of the guys that run trails run a 14 on the front with the stock 38 in the rear. personally i like stock gearing the best but i went with teh 39 in the rear to help me on the local MX track as it is a tight track.

so in your opinion, I should replace them with the stock sprocket...

not exactly. brand is up to you as is gearing. i mean stock size or gearing when i said "stock" i personally run JT sprockets. they are cheap but i have not had any problems out of them in the years i have been running them. some people only run sidewinder, Renthal, Sprocket Specialist, Ect.... but i cant complain about the cheaper JT brand.

I just bought a Primary Drive chain and sprocket kit from Rocky Mountain ATV. So far, no complaints.

I prefer the stock gearing. Some people like a 14 tooth front but I find it geared to low for my riding style. I just get any sprocket there all the same except like the renthal and sidewinder high dollar stuff.

i gotta renthal 14 tooth and i love it so much torque but i also do most trails so i do alot of on and off the gas and the torque helps me alot

and personally i didint lose that much top end i mean there is a lil noticable bit but nothin thats goin tottaly kill you

P.S if you like doin wheelies 14 tooth in the front is the way to go

If you are an experenced rider you don't need a 14 tooth. It doesn't add torque it lowers the gearing. If you know how to use a clutch, shift and throttle you can get the same thing out of the stock sprocket.

i ahve sunstar sprockets and the stock teeth, and no complaints yet.

I'm running a 15 up front and a 37 on the rear this year... I've only had it stock gearing, but I find I could use a little more speed outta my gears.

It doesn't add torque on a dyno but it shortens all of the gears which allows the motor to run threw them faster resulting in more power to the ground.

It allows the motor to run through the gears faster...true... But not necissarily more power. Each person and application it different. I tried one at the dunes and it shortened the gear ratio so much that I was having to shift into 4th alot of times to get the speed i needed, then causing the motor to bog alot more and be doggy.
You will just need to try the $15 14 tooth for yourself to really know if you like it.

I went with a stage one cam (agaist some very insightfull oppinions) because I wanted to keep stock gearing. For me its just right because on a lot of trails I ride, I only hit second once in a while for quite a ways. I did not want to have to be shifting every 40 feet. For you I would say try it out. Hell it's cheap and quick to change back. You will like it or you won't.

guys , what is standard gearing on these puppies ??

Mine was built in South carolina , so i got a us spec model , '05 , but im not too sure what gearing is .

i went one tooth down rear , to prevent it limiting when riding roads , in fifth , as it sounded like i was being cruel . guys also suggested to go one tooth up, front , for a bigger difference , and leave rear standard , but I doubt a standard motor with stock pipe could really pull it . I posted a pic of an Ltz giving me stick , elsewhere . it gave me carrots good and solid .

So wat is stock gearing ?

14 39 or 15 39 ??

I have been using JT racing and I have no complaints.14 in front 38 in back but I dont like the top end as much but I also have 18s in the back I think thats why it doesnt have as much top speed compared to my old 22's.

Thank you .

Yes , 18 nch tyres will probably be too small for top end . but dfor sheer pull-off , i think those 18's would be vicious for pull away .

i had the same problem with standard gearing . first hardly exists , and fifth is too short as well for long dirt roads .But by going one down Rear , i then have the problem where the engine now pulls harder to fifth , by removing just a Single tooth .?? And im running 20's , standard .

And from a pull away , a standard 400 even gives me a go , so its a simple case of : you either go there Fast , or you take longer and then build the engine to go faster in fifth , but Not both from a standard motor.Either you have nice launch speed from First and second , or you gear your bike for lower fifth gear Rpm riding .

Im saving for an Hmf pipe , was hoping quiet core was available here , but sady , not . That might boost my power a bit , as im not going to Change the gearing : bike strangely enough, still sounds as if it's motor wnats to climb out the frame in fifth , but i doubt that its limiting anymore .

jeepers , who said gearing and toying with a quad was easy , eh ?

yeah - I run 14/39 w/ 20" tires and it's great for the holeshot but I'm always trying to shift into 6th gear cuz my bikes topped out - but for your thread on which type/brand - I just went thru a renthal in like 3-4 months - aluminum ones (like renthal) cost more / last way shorter time - they're just lighter - so unless yer' racing doug eichner and a FEW pounds will make the difference - and yer' loaded to afford a new rear sprocket a few times a year - a cheap metal one like je or sunstar will be alot better choice

Stock gearing is 15/38 on the '99-'04 models. 14/38 on '05-'06.

thats odd - although I didnt count my front one last night - i had a 39 on the rear as standard , and it's an 05' . i know , because i had to count em when i ordered the smaller rear 38 tooth .

Any idea why hthey change em ? Motor is still the same , although I have been told that the model with the Goggle eye heasdlights seems to run better than the newer ones , just stronger maybe. wonder if there's any truth in that ?

My rear std was definitely a 39 . Just not sure what front is .

Magnetic Drain plugs .. MM . now THat i would definitely be interested in , because I have tried several times to fit a magnet onto the bike , and , of Course , as you know , it wont Stick ....

Where did you get that , and what did it cost ???

interesting ... I love that patent- saw it first from Porsche. they have an oil filter adaptor , that strains the oil as it goes through , also Magnetic . i now stick at least 1 or 2 magnets onto my Vehicles , works like a charm . actualy , there shouldnt really BE anything for them to pick up , but when something does come off , its nice to have one of em in place .

word of advice, dont buy them. i bought one for my oil tank and for the drain bolt in the motor. the oil tank bolt never really tightend down flush to the bottom. it was ok for a while, didnt leak. when i noticed it starting to leak, i went to change it back to stock and the head broke off. i was like o POO! well i have a buddy who had a easy out kit, and well the aluminum was soo ****ty, it couldnt grip it. it just made it worse. so we ripped off the peice that comes down from the bottom of the oil tank, machined a new one, and tig welded it on. its alot stronger than stock thats for sure. i took the magnetic one out of my motor so i wouldnt have to worry about it again. i called the place who makes them and they we just like "sorry to hear that happen, but you must have tightened it down too tight." that was bull****. paying like 15 a plug and it breaking like that. what a waist. dont buy them. just change your oil more often if your worried about metal going through it. i bought them from the site sponsor C&D RACING.

coming from the site sponsor !!!! thats Crappy man . i thought it was steel , but magnetized .......What the hell are they thinking making it out of soft material ???????????/
I hate it when that happens man . service is service , no matter what price you pay for something .

The one i saw from porsche was a metal object , then magnetized . i agrre then , if it sucks , it sucks .

Oil changes are good or better for a motor as well .

Sad . i thought i had a good product worth paying for for a moment . i'm going to mail them anyway and ask for an explanation on this .
