View Full Version : Correct Oil?
Hey, I just went to the dealer, and bough some oil.
All of these are endorsed by Pro Honda.
Engine: GN4 SAE 10W-40 SJ
Trans: HP TRANS OIL SAE 80W/85W
Coolant: HP COOLANT 50/50 blend
The only one Iam not sure of is the tranny fluid. Is that the correct one? Only 1 tank of gas ran through my quad already, so I just want to make sure I get off to a good start.
Thanks

It's fine to use. I have used the same stuff since I bought my 450R. (About a year and a half ago.)

its not the one your "supposed" to run, but its a better one, lets you shift smoother etc then the gold bottle, its what i run

i paid $22 for that and a filter from honda once, but now i run 10w40 oil that i get for $1 a quart and i have not had a problem with anything. its the same thing i ran in my 250r tranny and never had a problem. just my opinion, but i think the sh*ts overpriced from honda.

10-40 is fine but you're better off running the trans fluid.

I use Honda HP4 (gold Bottle without moly) in the trans .
Motul 300V for the engine.

the 80/85 is better for the transmission then the gold bottle, trust me

Exactly! And if you actually read you're manual you will see that they do recomend it. If you want to change it more often then 10-40 is fine. The only reason honda says to use 10-40 i the manual is so the average rider who may not know to much about changing their oil doesn't see the 80/85 trans oil and puts it in the wrong side. So they say to use 10-40 or 20-50 in both sides to make things simple.
