i just recently purchased a K&N air filter for my 06 450r and after i installed it i noticed the transmission breather tube is out in the open. im pretty sure this is a bad thing and i was wondering what other people have done to fix this problem. Thanks.

it's no problem, it blows out excessive oil from crankcase.
you can take it out and let it hang towards the bottom of the bike if you like. I just used the billet adapter that came with mine and followed the instructions.

then y would they have the tube blowing excess oil into the stock air filter?

its a pressure vent, it shouldnt be blowing oil ever.

i would never run a K&N filter, they will not protect your motor as well as a foam filter.

on the 06, since the filter is to big from the factory, there is no advantage to using a K&N horsepower wise. heres dyno proof.
