I need a new clutch lever and want to add hotstart as well. What do I need to buy? I see they sell and EZ Pro clutch lever with hot start at MagicRacing.com but will this or something else even work on a 400ex? I have a 450r carb if that makes any difference. How hard is the install? Thanks guys

Ummmm.....I may be incorrect, but you don't need the "hot start" unless you are using a kicker....since you said 400EX, I am guessing that you have E-start......has nothing to do with the 450R carb but with compression!
Someone please correct me if I am wrong....

I agree with Chino. You don't need a "Hot Start" for a 400ex. The "hot start" deals with the compression and not the carb.

I am pretty sure the hot start changes the jetting. But you don't need it for a 400ex.

I think it deals with compression not jetting........I have done a lot of searching and can't quite pinpoint it but I don't see how it would effect jetting.....

I also thought it leaned out the mixture so when you first kick it after the engine is hot it will start easier. I might be wrong though?

A choke makes the air intake less when its on.
The hot start does the oposite, it makes the opening a bit bigger letting more air in is all.

I thought the hot start cable went from the clutch to the carb and there for would not matter if it were electric or kick start. I find that sometimes when my motor is hot that it is hard to start. It was the same way when I had my 440engine with a 450r carb. It wasn't hard to start with stock carb. Honda changed the carbs on the 2006 450r so I don't know if they have hot start option them. A subject with 2 story's - whos right?

my honda service manual the one that shows u how take every nut bolt off the quad take apart the engine do maintenace etc said the hot start opens something in the carb which leans out the air fule mixture and makes it easier to start. and it does

doesn't the 450r carb also hook to the wiring harness on the 450's to operate some part of the hotstart ?
