Each year Motorama is held in the Farm Show Complex, located in Harrisburg, PA. , Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s capital, has been a prime transportation center since the early days of riverboats. The Susquehanna River remains the cities on the western boarder. In 1812, our ancestors choose Harrisburg as the state capital due to this premier location. Before the city was ever named, John Harris controlled the ferry while his son, John Jr., organized the town in 1785.

If traveling to Motorama, Harrisburg has a lot of attractions to offer. Within a few minutes is the famous town of Hershey. For many the name “Hershey” only causes a craving for chocolate. After research, one can find the name of the famous chocolate bar comes from the late Milton Hershey. Along with then construction of his chocolate factory in 1905, Milton created a city. He built comfortable homes around his factory along with an amusement park for his employees and local inhabitants. Never satisfied, Milton continued to help the community by building a hospital that has become a place where many lives are saved on a daily basis. My young cousin will undergo a liver transplant this spring at the children’s hospital. Throughout this risky operation that will save his life, I will be able to relax know that the Hershey medical centers elite nurses and doctors will be on staff.

1979 marked the first year for Harrisburg indoor racing. Some argue that this was the first indoor Motocross that sparked the entire indoor racing series all over the world. Originally arranged by Armin Hostetter and 3 sons, Motorama has grown each year with more events and attendance. 2003 marked a 86.2 million dollar expansion on the facility; this opened the opportunity for a new event. The first indoor car show in the area was introduced. visit www.Motoramaassoc.com for more information.

With the drop of the ball a new year begins, Motorama celebrates 28 years of bringing indoor racing to the Harrisburg area. 2006 has brought more attention to the sport of ATV racing than ever before. As the national series got a start on the west coast two weekends ago, many east coast riders have been dying to get into a set of boots. For many east coast riders, Motorama marks the beginning of the 2006 race season. Although, the start of the racing season for the GNC national riders began a few weeks ago in California. With a three week break, Jason Dunkelburger was able to attend this years Motorama to defend his title from last year.

For those Unfamilar with Motorama, Arenacross, Jump Styling contest, Speedshow, Tunerwar, Robot Conflict, Motorcycle trials, Go-Kart racing, Spina-Bifida Charity Auction and the Ms. Motorama Pageant make up the events for the two day show.

Although I didn't get to watch much of the Go-Kart racing, from what I heard there was some good racing going on. The dust and smoke filled room didn't make it to easy to get a picture.

Stopping between walking from the Arenacross area to the dealer area, I got to watch a few robot battles. Some of these things sure looking intimidating. I seen some good battles and quite a few bots get destroyed within the walls of the ring.

With 62 riders signing up for the 4-stroke amateur, two classes were formed. Even then qualifying for the final event wasn't easy. Taking the top two from each of the five qualiers made for hard racing in the first motos. Many riders were pushing the limits, and some went a little to far. Often when one would spin out or stall, a collection of riders would form behind the rider. One of our own from Atvriders spun shortly after the finish line double.

Many great riders came out to race in the expert classes this weekend. Although they all came to compete, this weekend was Jason Dunkelburgers weekend. Dunk cleaned both classes, both days. Mostly guided by great holeshots, Dunk showed what it takes to be a pro after a wipeout in the whoops that set him nearly back to the back in his qualifier. On this tight track, he made passing look easy and sent himself into the final.

This thread may seem to be overwelmed with Dunk pics, but the man deserves much more for how hard he rode this weekend and interacted with his fans. I am was very impressed to see him pull off the track from his victory and immediately sign an autograph for a young fan.
