I asked a guy on ebay selling them which was better. I dont know. his response;

Good day,

We use the 39mm PWK ourselves, however
Depending on how you ride or race will point us in the direction of carburetion.

The 38mm PWK Air Striker incorporates lower air horn fins focusing Air volume to the needle jet for increased bottom to mid-range throttle response. This type of carburetor offers great performance for track, dunes, tree dogging and enthusiast dragging.

The 39mm PWK (as we run on most all our 250R engine designs) is great for over-all performance with an emphasis to Top-End fuel performance. This carburetor offers great all around performance for riding and racing requirements. If you wish to leverage your engine design for a top-end Hi/Over-Rev great for drag and hill, track and dunes, go with our 39mm Keihin PWK.

The 41mm PWK is offered as our Drag Pro-Series Carburetor and is taper bored with reshaped air horn and throttle valve improving Air/Fuel Dynamics necessary for to match engine designs for drag racing.

Check out Our G3 Power Curve Reed Valve it will open your eyes to great performance as well.

now if I buy one of these larger carbs what about my stock intake boot, will it fit or will I have to change it out? should I get one of their reed cages too? is there a reed cage with a boot for the trx250r?

second question; I would like to keep a stock air box in there even though it will restrict performance some. Will that boot from the box line up and slip over or is there an aftermarket for larger bells on these carbs?

------

I have a honda 250r, LRD adjustable pipe bored .60 over and I am going to put on a 21 cc cool head and will be running 93 octane.

thanks for the help in advance.

38 and 39 PWKs will fit the stock airboot and reed cage boot. If they are old you are in for a fight. New OEM parts fit pretty easy with the bigger carbs. Everything will line up just like with your stock 34 PJ carb. I run an 89 air box w/ 86 airboot to a 38 PWK air striker to 89 reed cage boot and a V force cage for MX.

why do you have to run the 86 air boot? or the 89 pieces?

any difference to them?

Last year we were at shiloridge and there was a banshee that was beating everyone and his bike was built by 1dir-racing and he swore by them. He only had pipes, carbs, reeds and maybe a few other little things and he was beating 450’s , raptors, and even two of those big Kawasaki atomatics and my 250r with just k&n and fmf pipe at the time.

I run the 89 airbox for rear shock clearence, it has a space molded into it that the 86-87 boxs dont have. 88 airbox are the same as 89. I run the 86 airboot from the box to the carb because it dosent have the white resenator chamber that the 87-89 airboots have. Just one more thing to come loss and suck dirt into the motor.

I have both the 38 air striker and the 39 pwk. I like the 38 for MX and the 39 for wide open tracks.

okies thanks again, it looks like I will be buying the 38mm airstriker since I my cylinder is ported for MX.

P.S. Is this a good place to start with jetting for a 87 250r bored .60 over with mx style porting? I would be running 32:1 premix

Pre-jetted with:

Standard Jetting:
Slow Jet: #55
Throttle Valve: 7
Jet Needle: 48-DDJ
Main Jet: #170

There are a lot of variables with jetting, temp, elevation, humidity and bike set up. All I can say is start rich 200-190 main and do plug tests. New plug 4th gear wide open, pull the clutch in kill the motor. You want a nice brown color, black is rich, white is boom $$$. Be safe and stay on the rich side. Most of the time my plugs are black when I change them out. I run a 172 main in my 38 air striker.

I just read through 300 + post about jetting with the search trying to find out what to do.

ok.

I am at sea level - virginia beach. Temp right now is in the mid 50's on the average.

After rebuilding this engine to do a proper break-in you need to run the motor some. should I run the motor rich till I get the break in done and then do my jetting?
