What kind of riding do you plan on doing with it? If you want to get more into racing I would go with the z-400. If you just trail ride, and race occasionaly then get the predator.

ive never ridden a pred, but id like to. the only other bikes i would want besides my z would be a 450r or a pred. my z is great for trails. its a little weak on lowend power stock but a pipe and filter fixed that right up. my friends got a 450r and we are jsut about the same skill level and i can keep up with him on trails just fine.

really i would say test ride both. see which is more comfortable and what not. i dont know about the z400 value but it might start to drop since the ltr450 is out. the 400ex value went way down once the 450r came out..

I have owned both. But my Z is an 05' not an 03'. The Predator has a stronger bottom-end punch and is slightly more stable in the corners, but I'll take my Z any day. In my opinion Polaris was REALLY slack on building the original 03' models. It was just a very poorly built quad. I know the 03' Z's had some frame issues when jumped hard at the front shock mounts and the timing chains are known to be replaced often. But inspite of all that I'd still take the Z for build quality. The motor is plenty competative and in my opinion the handling is better as a whole.

I eat zs on my pred all day long. It's a beast even stock, but the 03s did have some problems, but then again so did the zs. My opinion would be get the pred. I love mine.

i doubt you will get a good opinion on wether you should get one quad or the other on this site. there are too many biased people that are going to tell you that one quad is so much better than the other just because its the one they own. if i were you i would search for problems, opinions, and reveiws from both of the bikes on the google and figure it out for yourself.

I depends on what type of riding you are going to do. Mostly trails like you say I think the predator would be a great choice. I have never ridden the other bike but the predator has a pretty good suspension and motor in stock form. But if you are going to race at all I would advise against the predator. It is to heavy and breaks to often. 03 predators also had issues with breaking frames and tranny failures. But I have heard about frame issues with 03 z's/kfx's as well.

six of one, half dozen of the other I guess

I've ridden both and personally i would get a kfx, i didnt ride the predator very long maybe 20mins at the dunes but it felt like a tank compared to the kfx. I think you should ride both of them b4 you choose.
