Ok, I know there have been about a million threads similar to this, but......

About a week ago, I started up my 03 Raptor, no problem. However, after it started, it idled real crappy for 10 or so seconds. I touched the throttle. It backfired, then died. It hasnt started since.

It turns over fine, and has a blue spark (I replaced the sparkplug). It is getting gas, and we tore into the carbs and sprayed them with carb cleaner. The airfilter was kind of dirty, but not THAT bad, I have cleaned it since. I changed the oil a ouple of rides ago.

We are taking it to a mechanic on Thurs., but was wondering if anyone had any idea on whats up. Thanks in advance.

is it turning over like it usually does?.....did you check the coil, spark wire...and possibly kill switch (hopefully thats not it)

make sure to check the easy things first. I have torn apart my carb before, replaced the plug, pulled the head... only to find out my fuel pickup tube was dirty so it would only idle a little bit, but once it needed more fuel it would die. So what I'm saying is start with the really easy stuff. pull your petcock see if its clogged, use a multimeter to check the kill switch, check the battery.. all the easy stuff, then move on to checking your valve lash (which is what I think it is)...

How old is the gas thats in it? I suggest that you drain it and put fresh gas in it if it is old. Have you put in aftermarket jets or what? also, I know this may sound stupid, but make sure you turned the choke off, I have seen that mistake many times.

Yeah check and make sure there are no leaks around the carb. Mine did that last week and turns out the boot going from the carb to the intake had about a 3 inch tear in it. Yours sounds exactly like what mine did.
