ltz-400 Cam Chain ---Help

I bought a new cam Chain and Manual tensioner... My problem is that the shop book shows dragging the motor down to replace the cam chain. I thought i heard you could change it somehow by removing the water pump and the top of the head. Anyone have any input trying to have it all done before my pismo trip..

Yea you have to remove the top of the head and take out the cam shafts as well as remove the ride side of the case (if you facing forward) and remove the clutch... at least thats the way i had to do it... if theres and easier way id love to hear it
