I do XC rasing and MX just for fun (KFX400). I want to get the LTR450 ASAP. Can anyone commend on the suitablility of the LTR for XC rasing (with tyre change of course...). i.e. pro's & cons please.

Also how does the LTR suspension compare to the KFX/LTZ standard piggyback suspension?

You can get the front down to 47" wide easily with a wheel change. However you'll need a new rear axle to get the width there down (49" stock).

You'll probably have to get the suspension resprung/revalved as it's probably going to be way too stiff for good XC racing. (I like my suspension a little stiff though. :))

Other than that, it should be a great quad. It has more torque in the lower RPM's than both the 450r and yzf450.

You'll need to find or fab some good skids for it though. I'm sure they will start coming out soon. I've already seen some prototypes.

So can I presume there is a big improvement from the LTZ suspension to the LTR...

You can narrow the rear by changing the rear hubs to the Z400.

Now that would be a nice option. ;) Wouldn't supprise me one bit, they did a great job of making a lot of stuff cross compatible.

On the flip side... if that is the case... you could make the z400 wider with the r450 hubs, as well. :)

Z400 hubs will fit but only 1/2' narrower on each side! and yes, we already tried it!

you can flip the rear wheels around and loose about 1.75" i believe. the rear wheels are offset.

Rear wheels are only 8" wide. I don't know of an xc tire that is 8" most are 9"

you can also take the rear wheels while bolted to the hubs and turn them around, thats what some gncc people do.

Changing to a 4-1 offset wheel will not help very much. LTZ and LTR wheels are not 3-2 offset. They are like 3.5-1.5. So you gain 1/2" on each side which puts you at about 48".

So if you race where 48" won't be a problem then you will be just fine.

No they don't. You press the wheel studs out and press them back in on the opposite side. Narrows the rear by an inch.
