What exactly is a "Slip-on" pipe?

I am assuming this is the silencer and not the head pipe. I hate to sound stupid here, but I just don't know so I have to ask. I can't imaging that it just slips on. It would fall off. What is a slip-on and why do they call it that?

It is a silencer and it slips on the header pipe but there are 2 connection points so it doesn't fall off.:eek:

So is there some sort of gasket or clamp to hol the pipe & silencer together tight enough so they don't leak?

Yes there is a clamp, gasket, or sometimes just an O-ring,,but some aftermarket header pipes will not work with other aftermarket companies silencers,,you have to research that before you make the purchases. I for one run a FMF header pipe and a Bills thunder silencer and there is no leak.

Thanks for the info. It just was odd to me because I haden't heard of a silencer referred to as "Slip-On" before.
