i mainly ride in -15 celcius up to 0 celcius right now...can it damage the engine because of its low viscosity?

why risk it? these engines cost a lot of money

I would still run what the manual says to run just because this motor has a thermostat. The motor will still reach operating temperature, even in that cold,Let it sit there and warm up then off you go. I was trying to climb a big hill the other day it was -9 out and the fan came on. that was the only time but at least i know it works.

10w40 minimum, there's a lot of stress we put through our machines that we don't normally pay attention to. I wouldn't risk it personally. I may live in warmer climates, but I always run 20w50 no matter what the temps. Better safe than sorry. :ermm:

Here (http://www.trx450r.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=14329&hl=oils) is a good link to oil info.

just remember that the colder the oil gets, the more viscosity it has. be sure it all warms up good before you ride it.
