I'm just wondering what everyone does before hitting the mud, on either a quad or a bike.

Here's what I've heard of:
1) spray Pam cooking spray under the plastic
2) Put nylon panty-hose over the radiator(s) to prevent mud build- up. (I've only heard of this for bikes; not sure about quads.)
3) Put cell foam between skid plates/around motor, again,to
prevent mud build-up.
4) Obviously hand guards and tear offs are a good idea!
5) Duct tape a tear off on the end of your visor to lengthen it.

That's all I have so far...anything you guys know that I don't?

umm..run the chain alil loose i think, cuz the mud builds up and tends to tighten it. Ummm...That's all I can think of, you pretty much covered all of it.

If you wear a chest protector, duct tape a scotch bright pad underneith it to your jersey. When your gloves get gummed up you can wipe them off quickly. The chest protector helps to keep the mud off of it a bit.

at gncc races the pros put duct tape from the top of their bumper to the hood, to block mud from gettin into the radiator

the pam thing doesnt work and i wouldnt put the panty hose on youe quad if i were you. the reason it is acceptable on bikes is because the radiator sits a lot higher on a bike so it doesnt get a lot of water on it. as soon as the panty hose gets wet, the mud will build up easily and clog up your rad. if the race is REALLY muddy then its a good idea to rejet your bike a little on the rich side so that it will run cooler. if you do this though its a good idea to bring more plugs with you on the trail. and always run your airbox lid even if you run an outerwears
