my buddy has a 13:1 440 bore with a +4 stroke. So far reliability is great, has not had any break downs since the motor was built in early october last year.

so is it a 440 bore or a 426 with a +4 stroke?

Also what kind of gas is he running?

And another thing, did he use the hotrod crank and connecting rod or the stock crank and rod? Im looking at buying a used bike and thats what hes telling me hes got in it and im a little weary about buying a bike with a possible time bomb for the engine. The engine was built by legacy atv in NC and they are a respected shop so that helps me some but still got my worries.

it is a 440 Bore, +4 stroke to make it a 460cc. He runs straight 110 race gas. it has a hot rods crank in it, GT thunder HD head studs, JE piston, +1 valves, port and polish, full GT thunder shorty exhaust, hotcams stroker cam, 450R carb. The bike is absolutely the best running 400 i have ever seen. it revs amazingly fast for what it is.
I would ask for some paperwork on the motor to verify where it was built at. Even though i build my own motors and partially built the 460, i would be wary of buying something not put together by a shop.

on that you would have to run race fuel. if you want a good trail bike, anything about 11:1 or lower compression will be able to run on pump fuel (premium)
