Ok, so I had an 04 YFZ, motor went on me and im sure you guys saw me tryin to sell the chassis on here FOREVER. Finally sold that. My next YFZ will be 100% stock and next to brand new if not that. Well Ive got about 5gs right now, and ive got to get something cause weather is warming up and i neeeeed to RIIIDDDEE!!!

Anyway, if i went with a yfz, i would still need tires/exhaust/kill switch/nerfs/bars ect ect to race OOORR, i could buy this, Little's old 250r for 5gs :eek2:

Now i know that its old school but its an 04 chassis, tripple rate axis full lonestar the works! And its already got nerfs/tires/kill switch/bars/pipe :D

So what you guys think?? An all stock YFZ, or this R, which ill probly race a year or so, then get a yfz anyways??

Go witht he R... More time to practice and it will be better than a stock YFZ with just enough stuff to race. good luck!

Just keep some extra money for the race gas and new piston/rings after every race, then you'll be good to go.

You don't need a new piston and rings after every race.

In reality, they don't need much more maintenance than a YFZ.

I agree with a normal 250r, but this is a race engine with high compression and a aggressive port job. It's recommended to replace piston and rings after every race to keep her at peak performance. As soon as your loosing compression, your loosing power. And it will actually increase in compression, prior to loosing.

get the R, maybe you have to replace the piston rings every ten hours but it beats spending 5 grand in extra parts for the yfz

Definately go with the R! And don't listen to the guy about piston/rings after every race:rolleyes: He doesn't know what the **** he is talking about. People usually can go a whole season on a piston. I would swap out rings about half way through if your compression drops a little. An R if built right will have about the same maintanance as a Race YFZ. Go for it and you won't regret it.

I guess any top engine builder doesn't know what they're talking about then........ who do you think built this motor?????? Don't start on me.....

Obviously jcv400ex,
You don't know what you are talking "young man". Ask anyone that races their R and see if they rebuild their entire top end EVERY race. Hell you would go through too many bores and be constantly resleeving it. I know of people that go a whole season on a top end, simply putting in new rings half way through the season. Do you even have an R to speak from experience or are you just another 2 stroke basher thats never even rode one before and going by what you cousin's brother experienced with 2 strokes????

I could easily see how a Pro may change a top end every race, but the normal weekend racer shouldn't need more then maybe a top end change/ring change in the middle of the season.

Hell, my friend races 125s(with all the mods you know, not stock at all here) in top local class, constantly finishing in top 3, and even he doesn't come close to changing his topend every race. He changes rings every 5 races with no problems at all.

You will love the R. Once you have a season on it you won't want to go back to a YFZ. Plus it's little's old 250r, it's not offten that you get the chance to buy a pro's old race quad.

I race an 250r with a Highly modifyed motor and belive me, you dont have to Change the piston or rings that often. That R will without a doubt run with the 450's . . . and as far as the 400's lets just say it wouldnt be worth the gas to prove that your 2 stroke would demolish it. Everyone seems to think since its a 4 stroke that they have low maintance. This couldnt be more far from the truth. I have 2 friends that both have 450s. One a honda and one a yamaha, needless to say that they have both been broken for sometime. Buy the 2 stroke, and kiss valve problems goodbye forever. Why would you even want a quad that handels like an 300ex anyways ??? Do the right thing!

okay i agree with all the maintenece comments but you just took it way to far....yes i have a 250r, and yes i have a 450r...and i love my 250r like a baby, i love how it rides and how it handles....but when it comes to really running, and racing...i put it away and pull out the 450r, the 450 will handle just the same and it will flat out dust my 250r!! AND it has not failed me since i got it as the first on in CT January 12th 2004, even with the full DASA motor we are running now, i have yet to find a problem. And to the guy that wants to know if they will run with the 450's...yes it will, but when you step up into the modded 450's you might have a problem...

Yeh i'm not into the 4 strokes really. Might be because my lack of knowledge about them or the fact that i seem to ride them like a 2 stroke. All in all i'd go with the R just because there so easy to work on, and look at it. Its Sweeetttt :blah:
