A lot.

-redesigned subframe for weight savings and lower seat height
-no oil cooler
-higher rpm redline (9850)
-higher compression piston (12:1 vs. 10.5:1)
-new bore and stroke numbers closer to CRF450
-quicker acting and smaller carb
-larger air filter
-freer-flowing exhaust
-closer gear ratios w/lower first
-redesigned suspension (stiffer)
-1" longer wheelbase
-bodywork
-better HRC kit

I would suggest reading a test in Dirt Wheels or ATV Action or something like that to get a better picture and hear how it all works.

I know if you do a search someone did a write-up on this differences a few months ago. Or you could just go to the Honda site i think thats where the list that was posted came from anyway. If your thinkin of buying an 05 instead or an 06 to save a few bucks..don't!! just buy the 06 and never look back. Unless your looking at your buddy riding the 05!!!

I like the idea of an 06 but why bother when you can work what you have. I dont know to many people that keep the bike stock. At least the ones I ride with.

someone should call Darren @ ny yamaha/honda (nyhondayamaha.com) and ask him whats the difference btwn the '05 & '06. He will tell u the electric start. -lol He wants to sell the '06 for $6400 OTB & $5800 for the '05 (prob cheaper). This is pretty sad, especially if I didnt know any better.

My dealer told me they changed the piston on the 06 and the motor will need rebuilt more than the 05. Is this true? It seemed to me like he was trying to make the 05 sound better with everything he said, but Im sure its just because they only have an 05 in stock.

Only reason I can think of would be because of the higher compression ratios in the '06's. Higher compression often puts more strain on the motor, therefore more rebuilds.

dont forget the titanium intake valves :D

Also the suspension is not stiffer. My friend on his 05 had his adjusted IDENTICAL to my 06 and when he was sitting on the bike his shocks sat as low as mine did with no one on the bike. And when he got off they had no preload. My shocks have about 1 inch of sag unlike the 05. Also the rear shock is a lot better on the 06 with the linkage change, more travel and more sag.

idk if the 06 has a different rear bumper or not because on the 06 the rear bumper includes the exhaust mount???
