I plan on maybe buying a sport quad within the next 2 years and I plan on keeping it stock for a while. Is the TRX450R a good stock quad or are there other that will smoke it - stock. I will plan to eventually do pipe, jet, filter, maybe cam, but it will be awhile after I get the quad.

is this going to be your first machine? if so, i would be careful of the 450r, it will bite ya...gobs of power...fro a first machine, i would consider nothing more than a 400...if you have ridden alot, get the 450r...good bike...i take delivery of mine next week i hope

No, this will not be my first quad, but my first sport quad. I have a bayou 220 I've been riding since I was a 3rd grader (I'm a Junior now), and a Polaris Sportsman 500. I have taken both to their limits and have had both at waynoka jumping, on tracks, stuff like that. I've done things on that bayou that my friend will not attempt on his KFX400. I can be crazy on that bayou. I also have ridden a 300ex, 250x, a modded 400ex (pipe, filter, jet) and had the chance to open the 400 up down a road and over a few jumps.

So in short, I have not ridden sport quads a lot, but I do have quite a bit of experience riding.

Yeah, they are pretty good quads if you ask me. Overrated IMO, but all 450s are. You won't be disappointed coming from what you have.

I just got an '06 450r and it is awsome no doubt about it, but I've also owned a bayou 220 and a highly modded 400ex and I'm telling you that no matter how much you've pushed the 220 and other quads the 450r will blow your mind. Your Polaris doesn't even compare either. Not saying anything about your riding skills, just saying that the new 450r is unlike anything you've ever ridden.

450r will impress you for sure, and down the road if you throw in the hrc kit.
a piped/jetted 400ex isnt even close to the new 450's,

I have the HRC kit with a 13t front sprocket and my friends bike is completely stock. I still get amazed when we switch off. The stock 450r has so much power for a corked up machine.
