View Full Version : Breaking down rear tires HELP!!!

I have a rear tire that is leaking arround the rim realy bad. How can I break the bead down and what is the best method for repairing leaks arround the rim. I need some info quick I am going on a run this weekend and right now the tire goes flat in under 2 hrs it sucks.

take it to an automotive tire shop.i just had 2 fronts done.i tried everything i could think of including driveing over them to break the beads and nothing worked.

You need a good set of tire spoons, and if you know how to use them properly its quite simple. I can generally pull off one rear tire in about 15 minutes. Thats pretty quick for doing it with hand tools. If you do get it off make sure you clean the bead of the tire really good and clean off the bead on the rim really good, there's probably jsut dirt and crap in there.

but you need a bead breaker i dont think you break the bead with tire spoons:huh

We broke the bead down with a piece of wood and a hammer. Cleaned the rim and tire we then put some silicone arround the bead and poped it back on the rim seem's to be holding air good now. We also studded them with arround 50 sheet metal screws per tire. I also put some tire slime in them. I'll see how the studs work this weekend.

when putting tires on, soak the bead and inner lip all the way around with joy dish soap. it helps a lot.
