Looks like an awsome project you got going. I love 250r projects. What color plastics are you going to go with? I like the white frame, you don't see that too often.

did you consider getting the cr250 ignition from ESR it would make your R rev like a banshee i think its only like $550 for everything you need.

trx250rkid
02-15-2006, 01:22 PM
im gonna be getting white OEM plastics. its going to be a red and white color scheme. the lower Aarms, swingarm, and steering stem are all going to be red and ill also be getting a bunch of anodized red billet parts from ESR.

I considered the cr250 ignition but it also makes ur bike slow down faster because of the smaller flywheel. i kno thats not really a big deal but i guess i just decided to keep the stock ignition..

If interested check your pm and let me know, I can get you the red decals to stand out better on white.

the cases and bearings were about 520 all together and i got them from my local dealer. my mom gets the employee discount tho:) but ESR sells cases with bearings and seals for 550.
im keeping my old cases for spares if anything happens to the new ones. hopefully nothing will:scary:

Man, I see you are taking your time and doing things right! Looking good. As for the porting, you probably would have a better port job if you had someone else outside of ESR do your porting. These big guys have these generic porting options (like TRX7, TRX9, etc). I find the smaller motor builders can better taylor your porting needs and have better craftmanship.

nice job bro, i remeber when i had allmy parts and was ready to build my R

if you need any help im right here

i noticed your frame has a gusset going across the top frame rail in the front.

did you check your steering stem just yet??? i hope it will work ;/

also that reed cage for the bike is a top end reed cage isnt it?

I dont know if your gonna like it?

hollywood was right about the port job, its not that they are generic, its that esr has light switch style port jobs and there not fun hopefully the PV will help

is motor woz back in buisness, i remeber seeing them a while ago and the shop burnt down. that be nice to know there back in buisness.

btw, you probably could have saved even more money if you bough 86 cases and 89 main bearings. and maybe save yourself a little headache your gonna need that bottle of tylenol lol j/k;)

theres nothing like OEM honda plastics DO NOT CUT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was thinkin about it but dude, they look sooo good. just get the supports for the front.

i think you might want to go buy yer self a nice stainless bolt kit....

p.s. its not too late you could swap your stator and flywheel for a lightened ricky stator flywheel and a 200 watt stator heck maybe even hook up the billit lights too. I can help you out with that if you feel like doing it pm me

trust me the lighter the flywheel the better.

trx250rkid
03-22-2006, 07:28 PM
hey beerock thanks for all the comments and everything.
your scaring me with the whole thing about how the stem might not clear that gusset. im gonna have to check that out soon and hope for the best.

ESR said that their reed cage will work good with this motor. i dont know tho is it really just for top end?

I knew that ESRs porting wouldnt be all that great compared to some smaller shops but the PVs only come fully ported and i didnt really want to have to send it out to get reported and stuff.

Motowoz is back in business and ive heard nothing but good things about there shocks. My brother has a set coming in for his 450r so we'll see how they perform.

Do you mean i should buy a stainless bolt kit for the engine or the chassis?

What makes a lighter flywheel so much better? i mean i dont really want to get rid of it and buy a lighter one but i dont know what to do.
im not gonna worry about the stator because im not going to be running any lights anyways.

once again thanks for all the comments and stuff guys

did you ever see my gusseting pics floating around this forum?

im really crossing my fingers for you, but your stem and possibly other parts might not work, best thing to do is go get your stem right now and check it.

i meant a stainless bolt kit for the chasis and motor mounts

you can get stainless bolts for the clutch cover and stator cover but you will have to go to a shop or find the exact thread size and length, Luckily i worked at a motorcycle dealer when i built my bike so everything is either stainless or brand new oem bolts and nuts..(i kept everything metric)

Are you serious about the PV porting? they wont sell them without a port job? COME ON THATS BS

lighter flywheel will alow it to rev faster and higher, you will lose a lil bottom end but you have a 310 and wont need to worry about it

if you buy the light flywheel from ricky you should also buy there rectifier its built beter then the oem honda one but since your not running lights you might not need it...

btw if you didnt know, those are merril hubs you have. supposedly they need grinding somewhere to fit right, i foget exactly where...

i thought that they were merril hubs at first but then i was on ebay and i saw a guy selling the same exact hubs and they are lightspeed. i could be wrong but i dunno. ive already put them on my spindles and they seem to work fine and dont need any grinding.

that wtf pic is the reason i went to a laeger pro peg frame.

the only thing you can do is drill through the esr motor mount for it to work, OR cut the nerfs and weld some special mounts so the nerfs kind of mount like pro pegs....

i feel your pain.....

honestly, your so far into it i would say drill through the esr mount...

I have been eyeing your project for a while. Good work, did you build the engine up yourself as well?

I am working on my project right now as well. It will be back from the powder coating after this week, then I am working night and day to put her all back together again so I can right the weekend of the 11th.

Picture was from todays ride to have her PC'd, cant wait to start putting her all back together again.

My brother is a mechanic and my buddy has worked on Banshees a lot but I have never even pulled a cylinder head off before last week. I have done a lot of auto stuff. We will see, it sure wasnt too hard to take apart... Putting it together sounds like the tough part. What did they charge you do put the whole engine together?

- I assume you are doing all the frame reinstallation yourself, suspension, and all that?

And my two cents... Do not race cut your plastics. I think that I may buy some non-race cut ones because i like them so much.

How much did your powder coater charge you to do all of your work?

i paid about 400 to get the motor built. the frame was done at a separate place than the Aarms, swinger and stem. It cost about 600 to get the frame gusseted and PCed:mad: and the place that did the arms, swinger, and stem charged me 300 because i had to order the color

jarednfischer
08-01-2006, 01:31 PM
Holy jeez man! The link to powder coating on my site has the actual pictures i took of another guy picking up his stuff and it looked pretty good.

I am paying 350 for everything including cleaning, sandblasting, powder coating. It would have been 300 but I chose translucents which take about twice the powder and twice the oven time.

I am getting everything you can see in the pictures done including the frame, a-arms, swingarm, springs, engine case, covers, hubs, knucles, stem, sprockets, handlebars, controls, and a ton of other stuff...

Luckily the guy who is doing the PC work has lots of links to the shops so he is getting me great deals on piston kits, bore, etc...

Money aside your quad still looks pretty sick. I just cant wait to get mine going. I will open up a new thread when I get my parts back from PC. Then its going to be a race to see how fast i can put her together.

I just hate when people plaster 310R or 350R or something all over their quads. Its a 250R with a 310 head or a 350 head, thats it. Besides its way more fun to roll around like you have a 250 head then roast someone.

I meant cylinder, like a big bore. I agree with you... I was asking him questions about what he had done, whether doing it himself or what not as I am doing something similar. I don't mean to post too much about my bike and i dont think i did. Anyways I am not going to ruin his thread.

it is a custom seat but i bought it off ebay already made. but i would have gotten 250r on it anyways because i mean, it is a 250r. thats the same reason i got the stock 88 250r graphics instead of custom 310r ones. i dont really like the custom big bore stickers but thats just me.

Hey, the build is looking killer. I'm glad there are still 250r enthusiasts. I have a question for you. You are using a 1987 frame with a no-link JDR swingarm. Have you moved the upper mounting bracket on the 250r? Do you know what size shock you are going to run in the rear? 18"?

I only ask because I did something similar. I picked up a LoneStar no-link swinger & PEP rear no-link shock. After doing a little research it seems the upper mounting bracket is positioned different on the no-link frames? Have you run into this yet?

Does anyone know how much higher the no-link frames upper shock mounting bracket is compared to a stock frame?

Thanks, and again the build looks awesome!

No, i didnt move the shock mount because the JRD no-link swingarm is made for the stock frame without mods. so i just bolted it up and i think i use a 17 3/4 inch shock but i need to clear that up with JRD. thanks for the complements

Ok guys i need a little help. i am trying to get the new airbox mounted and i dont know if im doing it right. here is a picture of what it looks like just connectec to the lt500 airboot. i am planning on having a mount fabbed up for the back of the box so i can mount it to the stock airbox mounting hole on the back of the subframe
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/trx250rkid/250r%20rebuild/IMG_0866.jpg

the problem is that it looks to me like the rear shock is going to be rubbing against the airboot when i am riding. i just wanted to know if theres anyone on here that runs a lt500 airboot on their stock frame and if this is how it is supposed to be.
you can see better in this picture

i got it off ebay. Jrd still makes them and it takes 6 weeks to get one.

and about the ims pegs, the guy i bought them from told me that he is willing to sell the mounting brackets to me that he used on his 86 with the footpegs. i understand that u guys think that the footpegs i have look like your 88-89 style pegs, but are they really so different that u can tell wat year they are for just by looking at pictures?

the pegs are one of the things that aren't interchangeable between all years, On the 88 frame they slide on the frame and a metal piece goes threw them, im not sure how the 86-87 are.

Yes its real easy and you dont have to be one of those crazy people you refered too. Only two kinds of pegs for four years of trx 250r's, one takes two bolts,86-87, and the other takes a pin,88-89. You have to be real careful buying 250r parts, some people dont know what year they have. Some think they know by the color of the fenders. Foot pegs and rear grab bar bolt holes will let you know real quick if its 86-87 or 88-89.

ok so if 88-89 pegs just slide on the frame, do they need any mounting brackets? because the guy i bought these from supposedly has mounting brackets for them.

here is another set of footpegs i found that are clained to be 86-87. its not that great of a picture, but from wat i can see, the mounting part looks the same as the pegs i have. i dont know if this guy is clueless too and his are 88-89 style, but can anyone see a difference between my pegs and the ones in this picture?

If you find those useless and want to sell, I'd be interested @ $100

yooo guys havent posted anything in this thread for a while. but i have a little bit of an update.
i got my front hipers finally
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/trx250rkid/250r%20rebuild/IMG_1091.jpg

and rtc radiator scoops
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/trx250rkid/250r%20rebuild/IMG_1096.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e314/trx250rkid/250r%20rebuild/IMG_1093.jpg

the reason they look so dull is only because i left the plastic on them just in case i drop a bolt or something. they are as shiny as a mirror underneath. i also have a new chain and sprockets, ac grab bar, twin-air airfilter, pro taper bars on the way, new front brake rotors, and carbon fiber tank cover on the way.

Im having a lot of trouble finding new balljoints for these A-arms. Does ANYBODY have any idea where i can find 14mm balljoints for standard travel A-arms?

Now that is a good lookin quad. It's nice to see someone taking the time to build it up right without shortcuttin' it. Is that headstay pced a different color red or is that just the lighting? Looks lighter than the arms and swinger.

what kind of swinger is that? How is your rear suspension going to be setup? Looks like a no-link swinger for a stock frame? If so what brand swinger? What is the difference in the shock length compared to a stocker? looks amazing btw

It is a JRD no-link swingarm and yes it is for the stock frame. this one uses a 17 3/4 inch shock and i believe the stocker is around 16".

thanks for the compliment. im expecting to finish it around the beginning of spring time. Things might get thrown off a little though because i am doing some work to my dirtbike too so theres a change that i wont be able to finish this 250r until late spring or early summer. either way itll be done for this riding season

I am currently building one. I started with a frame and a motor. Almost all of the parts I have bought are aftermarket, and look like new (if they are used). It has cost me almost 3500 CANADIAN so far and i still have to spend about 500. Not bad id say.

im just thinking more like you owe it to yourself to finish it. it was almost done then it seems like you got your license lol. you spent the most $ you could on every brand new piece possible and stopped when it was almost finished to start a new toy. i wish i had it like that.. an R that pretty should never be sat aside for a FORD!! finish it!! lol

i wish you luck and hope you can add this to some of the best R's out there i just hate to see it parted or sitting for no one to see
