Well, right now I have a 93 Explorer 4x4 and it's not that it's a bad truck or anything, it's just it's slow and averages 9-11 mpg. And me being a 16 year old kid workin for 6.50 an hour, it just ain't the vehicle of my choice. So I'm looking around for other options, I honestly want a car. I'd kill for a 93-97 Camaro z28 with a 6 speed, but I just don't know if it's feasible for me to have a car being I need to be able to haul my quad around on the trailor. But I definatly DO NOT want another 4 wheel drive truck. So it's kind of a shiity situation because I need a vehicle that gets pretty decent fuel mileage, but still be able to haul a quad.. and a little acee when I feel like lowering my fuel mileage if you catch my drift.

bit of advice the camero bad idea they get about the same gas milage as your explorer and they recomend that you run premium with the v8................ my little brother had one and those cars just fall apart

Dito on the Dakota! I had a 2003 Dakota club cab with the 3.9 V6 and i put a KN FIPK in it and i got like 20-22 MPG and like 14-16 pulling my 2 place trailer with quads on it! Awesome truck but unlike you i live in Michigan where the snow sux and so i needed 4x4 so i got rid of it. Thats Terrible though for an explorer you should get double that. I have now a fully loaded grand cherokee 2005 with a 4.7 V8 and i get almost 18MPG with just a standard KN filter Your fuel filter or something needs to be replaced either that or you need to put some mopar in that thing. Run some fuel injector cleaner in it replace the air filter and check you fuel filter you should get at least 15 mpg with that!!

Do some maintenance on your truck and it will run better and get better gas mileage!

id say a small pickup. the older s-10 2wd with the iron Duke 4-banger got some great gas mileage and for a 4cyl 5 speed truck, had some power. no v-6 power but not a slouch for a 4 cylinder. or get a small 2wd truck with a v6. they shoud do decent on gas mileage and have some power.

and on the camaro. you can put a hitch on those things, my neighbor hauls his bas boat with his 95. the actually get great gas milage for what they are atleast 16, i have heard of some in the 20's. teh insurance would kill you though.

You want something quicker/sportier then the Explorer, get better gas mileage, but also need to haul your ATV.

You could either get some sort of V6 truck, or get a smaller sportier car and put a hitch on it. I have a hitch on my Civic. It will pull an ATV fine. If you get a 4 banger and want to pull something, make sure you get manual. My Explorer pulls much better then my civic does though.

I recommend just keeping what you have and do what you can, then worry about a car later when your working more and making more money.

Do you have payments on the Explorer currently or cash for another car?

I would deffinatly recommend getting a 2wd 4cyl ranger, awesome on gas and fun to drive, that was my first truck, I loved it! deffinatly better than having a car, sure the're fun to drive, but not practical for us...and their too small!

i've done got quoted for insurance on the z28 and it's cheaper by close to a 100 bucks every six months (91-94 explorers are #1 rated roll over vehicles) And my friend has a 97 z28 and gets 22, And for the maintence comment, I keep my truck maintained, less than two weeks ago it got new plugs, wires, air filter, and Amsoil synthetic put in. But idk, I guess my needs are pointing to a 4 cylinder 5 speed pickup, I might start looking at the Nissan Pickups of the mid 90's

The Nissan hardbody pickups are great! I wish I still had one.

i agree the hardbodys are good little trucks. look around and see if you can find the SEv6 version, its got the 3.0 v6 motor, same block as the maxima and 300z, but not as good of a head design. they also come with power windows, powerlocks and a few other featurs the plain 4cyl trucks didnt have.

my friend matt has a 95 nissan w/ the 2.4l and 5 speed and i swear he redlines it every shift and he has had ZERO problems with it, except he's blew 2 rear ends and had to replace the clutch once, but other than that it's been straight up bulletproof. Idk, my dad said if I get a decent car, that he'd let me drive his f250 to the track and stuff as long as I left him my car with the keys, so now I'm not worried about a pickup. And no, I will not own an s-dime with a 4 cylinder. my brother had one and so did my friend curtis (curtis had a 99 Xtreme and it was slow as balls, and my brothers motor blew at 124k miles)

what year, because the Iron duke was darn near unstoppable. the newer 4 bangers arent much from GM, but the older ones were about as good as a 4 banger got.

I personally love VW GTI's/Golfs. If you get the VR6 Model with the V6, they have plenty of Get-up, and they also have a 6-speed.

I've had both, and I agree. The older ones do seem to have a little more power. I've owned a '87, '96 and '98 S10/Hombre in the past.

hey your explorer should get alot better than that...do some work to it....(fuel injector cleaner) possibly... also have you exaust system inpected for a clogged converter or muffler...that really affects proformance and milege.

Try resetting the Computer following the instructions in the manual. This will reset everything you can name in the vehicle, so it learns to your driving habbits and manners, and in most cases perks everything up. Fresh plugs, wires, air filter, throttle body clean job, etc. will get you back on your feet and won't be terribly expensive.

try to find yourself an '80s diesel S10 pickup.they get upwards of 30-40MPG but they are hard to find.or get yourself a full size diesel pickup.the truck in my signature is highly and i mean highlymodified and i get 16MPG around the vity and 18-19MPG on the highway in one of the extreme settings on my chip.if i turn the chip down to economy i can get low 20s aroundtown.and mid 20s on the highway cruising at 70MPH.

talked toa guy that has a hemi this morning, told me hes gettin 13MPG and almost cried when i told him i get 16 around town whilebeating the snot out of it. :D

if you have interest in a diesel go to these websites,they/we can answer any questions you may have.

94F450SD - My friend has an 04 or 05 I can't remember, and according to his onboard computer he gets 10.9 MPG average. It's not a little tank either. As the engines get more miles on them they are alot less peppy....
