i have a 400ex with an aluminum air box and im pretty sure that you cant use a stock latch. and right now iv been riding with no seat latch,, just zipin it down with a few zip ties. i was wondering if anyone knew of any latches i could buy for my 400ex that would still work with an aluminum air box and maier plastics. thanks alot.

I don't see why the stock set up wouldn't work, the box shouldn't interfere with the latch if it's made properly.

There are aftermarket latches available but I don't know who makes them or what they cost. They have pins and clips instead of the spring action like stock.

thanks man. and the stock latch... does it connect to the seat and is the lever on the seat or is it a latch under the seat?

It looks like the air box extends above the subframe. Is that is causing the rear plastic to sit higher than it's supposed to?

I'll see if I can find pics of the stock set up......

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't interfere with the seat/ like make it higher or anything. but in the pic you can see that the air box goes back father then where the seat bar/clamp goes into ( the two rubber circles) so it just goes straight into the air box.

I can't find the pics I was looking for...

The lever mounts to the bottom of the seat and there's shaft that mounts to the underside of the subframe where the slot is inbetween the rubber grommets.

yeah make sure to get the piece for the subrame because I'm pretty sure it comes separate from the latch

If your seat/fender has the pins coming down that go into the gromets on the subframe, you have an aftermarket setup. You should have two big hairpin looking things to go into the holes on the seat pins. If the airbox is in the way, cut a couple of notches so it clears. If you look closely you can just see the back of my airbox where I trimmed it.
