Well its around 20-30 Degrees here in IN now. My bike is 100% stock. I heard to go up on the pilot jet for better running sand starting. Stock was 42 and i went to 45. it starts the same but seems to be a little bit down on power down low. Is there some adjustment screw i can mess with instead of ripping it all back apart and changin the pilot again? im going riding in the morning and need help! By the way this is an '06 . THanks!

Air/fuel mixture screw on the bottom side of the carb. Screw it in maybe a 1/4 or 1/2 turn. This will lean it out a tad.

the screws head is liek this (| not a regular screw-driver fits it, i was told a dyno-jet jet kit comes with the tool and the stock jet in the 06 is a 42 pilot?!, they are usually 38's 42 is as big as i would gow ith a 400 carb even high flowing exhaust, filter, and porting i've seen running 42's

get the exhuast good and hot, remove the three screws on your muffler end cap, remove the baffle, replace the end cap.instant horsepower boost.(the 450r kicks over easier too)

Well i went riding today. the bike felt pretty strong, but it didnt want to quite start as easy also the bottom end wasnt all there like it shoule be it had some hesitation. and when its sitting there idling if u just floor it as fast as u can it will die. And out of one of my overflow hoses i think it is, there was gas leaking out a little bit. My friend said everytime he came around me he smelt raw fuel and thats what it was. All i did was change the pilot from 42 to 45 on a stock machine. Did i mees somethign up in the carb while doing it? thanks!

crap, im sorry, i thought we were talking about a 400ex, anyways, i think a 45 pilot on a completely stock 450 with air box lid on is a bit too rich, when u hit the gas u could be washing out the lpug have u checked the plug at all since u changed the pilot?, try running with the air-box lid off and see if it is still doing it

sounds like the float level is to high.you could have bumped it when you took off the float bowl.

Thanks for the replies guys! i think my float it outta adjutment. i must have bumped it and didnt know it or something...... I hear theres a tab between the carb base and the foat and you need to measure it with a feeler gauge and bend it to according to spec. Does anyone kow the spec?!?! Ive looked and cant seem to find it. Also while i have the carb off what else should i check for? thanks!
