If you replace a piston and rings in a perfectly running motor do you have to hone the cylinder before the new one goes in?

its suggested to hone so that the new rings will seat in properly, just depends on how your cylinder looks. If it still has good crosshatch showing I don't see any point in honing one

new rings should always have a sharp surface to seat.thats the way i learned it.if you do put new rings in and they wont seat,there is a way to help them seat.
