hey i have the stock 400ex sprockets on my bike right now. im looking to get a little more acceleration out of it. i have 18 size holeshot mxr4 tires on the rear. is it worth it to drop a tooth or add one in the front or should i keep the stock sprocket sizes, thanks.

Yeh, There a cheap investment. Just buy a 14 and try it. Im switchin mine all the time. for good trail ridin i run the 14 but if i know ill be runnin at higher speeds i put the 15 back on for that day. Its all your preference.

That is unless you have an '05 or '06 in which case you'd need a 13 tooth in order to drop one in the front.

I have an 03 and run a 13 up front with 20 inch rear tires. Much better than stock sprocket.

Primary Drive front sprockets are like $6 a piece at Rocky Mountain ATV. It's worth the investment to experiment.

I just switched from a stock 15 on my 2002 to a 14 JT racing sprocket.I miss the top end some but in second gear going up a sand hill is a blast when you tap the throttle and rip a wheelie up it!

Have you done anything to your quad? Like air filter or pipe etc? With 18's and stock gearing your acceleration should be pretty good, going down 1 tooth in the front is like going up 3 teeth in the rear (so it's kind of overkill) but it sucks making that rear sprocket any bigger.

i have an open air box with a 16t front it dynos the same as a 15t closed box. so i have the top end, the harley sound, and the low end i am happy.
