I just got a suzuki 230 quadsport unknown year. My questions are on the carb there is a black knob on the right side, what does it do. What is the purpose of the decompresion lever? Mine will now start with it engaged. I have to kick it when it is hard to start it. Im looking to replace the stock air filter with a k&n or a uni filter, but will I have to change the jetting if I do this. Are there anyother things I should look for on this quad? Thanks and sorry if these questions have been answered I tried doing a search.

I put a UNI on one of those a while back and I did not have to rejet, just be careful when you install the filter because the mounting tabs break easily

the knob you are talking about is for the choke. it give you two setting summer and winter. if you pull it out and push down on the choke lever you it will travel all the way. push it in it only goes half way.
uni filter. look at the frame buy the steering stem for a tag it will giv you the year of the quad

I think that if I hold the lever next to the clutch and kick it a bunch of times it kinda warms the motor a little. Thats what I did today then let it go and it seemed to start not too hard.

I know that it is the compression release but the atv will not start with it being held. I have to kick it while it is hard to get it to start. Is something wrong with the atv if it doesnt start with it held.

you dont want it to start while holding it open, you wont have any compression if your valve isnt seated:)
