a friend of mine has a 2003 Poolaris Predator. when we go riding after maybe about 30 mins of riding his quad will stall. then when we go to start it(sometimes wont start by battery so we pop start it) it will fire up but then just POP POP POP very loud and shoot some flames. then once its cold again it will work fine. any idea what may be causing this problem? he is the only hardcore rider friend i have that will o riding when its 10 degrees outside, so i need to get this thing fixed!!! any help is appreciated.
thanks

Has he ever checked his valves? Sounds like that might be his problem.

Does he have an aftermarket CDI (rev limiter)? My buddies 04 had one on it and it made it run hot and hard to start.

he hasnt checked his valves. he bought the quad about a month ago an the thing looks like it has over 100 hrs..so we might have to do that. as far as the CDI, not sure..i believe it might have an aftermarket..

the valves, the cdi, the jetting?

try cleaning out the carb and doing a plug check. that is always a safe way to go! also, try seeing what a Polaris Dealer thinks! they can also get you some stock parts if that cdi is *****tin out! hope this helps! also go to

www.predatorowners.com
then go to "modifications"

hah, this may sound silly, but he has no vent tube on his gas cap. and a carb clean and plug change are happening today.
