400ex crankcase splitting ?

Hi, I have a 2003 400ex that the left crankcase is cracked due to the chain flying off. I have picked up a used center crankcase and was wondering how hard it is to split the case on this engine. are there and tricks or tips to do this that might help me. Also i was wondering if I could leave the right side case on and just disasemble the left side of the engine. Im a auto mechanic and have worked a lot on atvs but have never split the case on one. just wanting so know what im getting into. thanks mike

If your chain is adjusted properly you wont have to worry about it.

As long as you take it out and put it back in the other on its pretty strait forward. Just need to make sure the crank is lined up with the counter balancer, keep all the transmission gears in a bunch and then reinstall the shiftforks in the proper sequence.

Ya I have a service manual coming in the mail. Will I need a tool to seperate it or can it be done other ways?

They show you what to do in the manual,piece o cake.my background is automotive also.
