Ok, i was checking everything out on my quad today. I just put in a 250r lonestar axle in my 400ex. I got new pins for the castle nuts today, and was making sure everything was ok but it seems the hubs will not tighten up. There is side to side play in them. Does this mean that the hubs are bad, or is there another trick I am not doing?

My friend just got the LSR axle and his spacers were too big and he couldn't get the hub and castle nut on tight enough to fit the cotter pin in. I think he machined one of the spacers down and bought some washers to snug it up a bit.

I believe that you have the opposite problem. Are the spacers too small?

ok, i got it. i just had to tighten them down a little harder. my stock ones were only hand tight, and there was no problem. plus, i lubed the splines extra good to take away some play. no problems now!!!

I put RTV Silicone on the splines and then tighten them up. The silicone takes up the play. Any auto parts store should have it. I get it at Walmart.

The 250r hubs have one spine less then the 400ex ones,or vice versa.
