i want to rebuild my engine and up the bore, and i would liek opinions comparing the 416 to the 426. I plan on running a stage 1 cam with 11:1 compression on either kits while rejetting with a slip-on muffler. Any comparisons of power gains, reliability, cost and ease of installation would be greatly appreciated.

thanx

I personally started small with the 416 in my first 400ex I owned. I figured since it was mainly a trail bike, I could keep the dependability up along with having a little more power. Don't regret it one bit, bike's got a ton of hours on it and still runs like a champ.

My other 400ex I jumped straight to the 426 just 'cause I guess.

I guess it just depends on what your going to do with it. If it's just for recreation I'd go with the 416. You at least still have room to improve and go bigger later on in life.

If I remember correctly between the wiseco 416 piston, rings, hot cams stage 2 cam, and labor (and beer) for my buddy to do the work it cost me about 500 bucks.

That's just going off memory from like 4 years ago but it should be pretty close.

i went 416 about a week ago It cost me right at 225 dollars. Thats with a 11 to 1 piston wiesco. it was 125 the gaskets were like 30 and the bore job was only 50 bucks. I know you can get a hotcam for 125 that would make it about 350. I love the 416 i would go with that because you can always go bigger but you cant go smaller

i would mostly be using it for trail riding, i might do a couple local drags just for s**ts, and i would be doing all the work but the bore and home myself

thanx guys

note when moding a 400ex get a cylinder stud kit from tc engines or gt thunder . the stock studs pull out and the head gasket will blow. laz has info about this at gthunder.com
