I cant say I"ve ever had that problem with my recon and I have drivin through water almost pass the seat and never had any problems with it shuting off,but I will say I had more problems then I care to count with my rancher which is why I traded it in for a 400ex.Dont get me wrong,Im not bashing ranchers I just had a lot of problems with mine and not one single problem with my recon

my first quad i had was when teh recon first came out never had one problem with it there very reliable and for whoever says they just shut off in water i dunno whats up with yours but ive have mine full submerged with intake snorkels and next missed a beat, very reliable machine nad have enough torque to get you were you want ive climbed hills where some 4x4s didnt make it

i have ridden one, a new one nearly every day lol, at the shop. there is no difference from the 05 models except for the blue color, and as far as the electric shift goes, you can choose between manual or electric with the manual being about $200 cheaper. ive seen them pretty submerged and run through stuff, quads... you might want to check your airbox plug and such
