I just bought a new 02 400ex and was wondering if it is supposed to have a brake light. I have a tail light that lights up when i turn the headlights on, but it doesnt get brighter when i hit the brakes. It doesnt glow when i hit the brakes with the headlights off either. Just wondering.

Anyone ever do a break light on theirs? It would be nice to have on trail rides so the guy behind you knows your slamming on the breaks. I have come close a few times to smacking into my brother because of sudden stops. The light would be easy to do but I can't see a good way to do the switch to make it come on. Maybe a micro switch on the break leaver somehow.

It can be done and has been posted on a web site. If I can find the link I'll post it. All you need is front and rear break switches of a wrecked cycle, and a bulb and socket out of a GM, not sure of the P/N.

....here you go.

the master cylinder is setup for a switch already.. I believe the switch out of the clutch perch will work just fine on the front master cylinder as a brake switch..

you can also get replacement banjo bolts (where the line bolts into the master cylinders) that have pressure activated brake switches in them, which would make it very easy to wire up brake lights...
