In my last thread, I was going to restore the lincoln I have and drive that around. I decided to go car shopping before I made my final disicion. I found a lot in Newark, NJ with a ton of unmarked police cars (mostly Crown Vic's). I relized they have low milage and sell for cheep. I seen a 1999 with 70,000 miles for $4,000.

Definitly gonna be a sick, fast car. Im already assuming the cops will be harassing me for drivin one of "Their" cars :o

Heres a picture of one I seen Identical, besides the Bumper.

I always wanted one of these things! 4.6L v8 . Gas money is gonna hurt....

Anybody have one of these cars? If so, how do they run and ride?

those cars sound so sick with exhaust. I wanted one but decided a truck was more my thing. A friend of mine has a red crown vic with some flowmasters (i think) and it has a sick tone to it.

LMAO...when I was in college I drove an old cop car. Friends of our family own a car auction and they process all of Canton city's cars. I bought a Caprice 9C1 (it was the same as the Impala SS) for $2500 and had it painted. That was a very fun car!

awesome i would leave it looking close to a cop car as you could, cause people would be scared thinking you were a cop. hell maybe even trick some cops, but get flowmasters for sure.

Im not formiliar with the town, so Im not totally sure. I think if you were on 46, you get off at mill street, and theres just a ton of blocks. Theres also another one closer to the newark airport. I don't know exact locations.

I like trucks myself, but a cop car would be awsome to own one day.

02-07-2006, 07:58 PM
those are usually ragged out 70,000 miles though :ermm: looks cool and im sure you will get a real good deal but just keep in mind it was prob. driven even harder then a rental car. Trying to catch up to speeders all the time and whatnot

The fuel economy should be decent, my grandma's V-8 vic got better economy than her V-6 Sable by quite a bit...

I agree. What you need to find is a nice retired unmarked squad that was driven by higher-ranking officers. I'm talking about the ones that didn't get driven as much. You know, not the standard patrol squads that are beat to hell. Like when my dad was deputy chief before he retired, he had his own unmarked Lumina. Was a nice car for being a cop car, and wasn't driven nearly as much as the patrol units. It even had sweet *** Recaro seats. The plus side is most of them are well kept on a tight maintainence schedule.

I've always wanted to get a used cop car. You should get one of those flashing red lights from walmart that plug into your cigarette lighter, and put it on the dash.

The one thing about a cop car is that you have to remeber they sat and idled most of thier lives unless you get a chiefs or deputy chiefs car, but then the interior is wore out from all the hot air :eek2:

I agree with POPO...we beat the hell out of those cars...You have to realize that all 70,000 of those miles are stop and go driving. Also those cars just sit and idle alot so im sure there are goin to be some little things to go wrong with it...In my opinion i would not buy a police car with 25,000 or less on it...Good luck

Even though that car has 70,000 miles on it, think about how many hours the engine was on an running while the cop sat for a speeder, or got his breakfast and left the car running outside (which they all seem to do)

Honestly, its cheap for a reason....but if you want it....go for it....

I relize the cars were probably beat on. The one I looked at looked in great shape, but I have no idea what the motors been threw. Its kind of a gamble, but if it breaks, i'll just have to fix it, or sell it.

I can't speak for every police department and their maintenance practices but the city of Canton does an excellent job. If a car comes in after it's been run over a curb and the tie-rod gets bent it's not just that part that gets replaced. Both tie-rods and the steering rack gets swapped out. If the right front brake starts to squeel they don't just fix that. All 4 rotors and pads were replaced. I would have no fear of buying another car from Canton police again. The biggest drag is the vinyl back seat:D One nice thing is that the police packages come with much more stuff than the passenger version of the same model. Here's a list of the differences between the 9C1 that I had and the standard Impala. See page 2 of this pdf:
http://www.9c1.com/brochures/1995/95_9c1.pdf
Heavier gauge steel frame, Bilstein shocks with heavier sway bars, 4-wheel disc, 8.5" posi, LT1, power steering cooler, trans cooler, oil cooler, higher capacity radiator, higher output alternator and the list goes on and on.

If things go wrong its no big deal... The you can go aftermarket and the vic shares the 4.6 with other vehicles(like the mustang) that have a performance aftermarket if you know what I'm saying  You could always get a V-10, supercharge it and swap it in, it has been done. The 4.6 bottom end can hold it's share of power, i believe between 1000-1200hp... Oh the possibilities...:p

I say VROOOOM... It would handle it with ease, as far as im concerned there is no such thing as hard miles as long as a vehicle is maintained well...

speaking of the kenne bell. thats my next mod, but 5000$ for the intercooled kit means a bike is getting sold...

the 2v 4.6l can be made quick, the only problem with the interceptor is the weight and size.
