I do not believe anything to do with the oil tank was changed. So it should fit.

try and use a tank from an 03 or later 400ex, they have a reinforcing plate at the drain spout and it helps to prevent the infamouse tank crack the 400ex is notorious for.

thx for the replies, i ended up getting an 05 tank anyways.. i dont know how mine broke.. i went to unscrew the bolt to let the oil drain and the whole bolt holder thing came out.. here is a pic of what broke off, and the bolt didnt even budge this just fell out with it, and to top it all off one of the damn bolts that holds the front sproket on broke too... not a good day in the maintanence and care of the quad:ermm:

you need to use the washer that no one ever replaces when they change thier oil to keep the drain bolt from adhering to the tank.

well damn i guess thats what happend... ill have to make sure the washer doesnt fall off with this tank, it must have fallen out during one of my last oil changes, thanks for bringin that up tho i never would have thought of that and it probably would have happend again

Ok, I just got the OEM oil tank replacment in... is their anything I need to do to make sure their not no loose metal fragments in it.. or just change the oil at the regular 10 hours and if there is particles in there the oil filter will hopefully just catch them?

just put some oil in it, swish it around then drain it out and you should be fine.

Don't forget there is also a screen at the bottom hose for catching stuff.

I got a tank from my buddy with an 03. He got a bigger aftermarket one so he had this laying around. The new one on the left look how much stronger it is. There is a plate built into it
